Article said:
"Checkpoint Wingman" and other similar apps have graced Blackberry App World, the iTunes App Store, and Android Market. Their aim is controversial -- to allow users to share and warn others of police DUI checkpoint stations on the road. The apps integrate with the GPS in users' phones to provide real-time warnings of upcoming police. Aside from avoid the police while intoxicated, the apps are also commonly used to avoid speed traps.

Outraged at the app's growing popularity a quartet of Democratic national Senators -- Sens. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Harry Reid (D-Nev.), Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), and Tom Udall (D-N.M.) -- have banded together and sent letters urging Apple, Google, and Research in Motion to ban the app from their respective marketplaces.

Really? Like really really? I don't see any fucking issue with this app what so ever. These asshole Senators want to control our flow of information and freedom of speech. Fuck them saying we can't have these applications to share our knowledge. Before anyone comes in here and starts calling me a drunk driver or in support of drunk drivers, that isn't true at all. I just don't like the government telling us what we can and cannot do with our own property. fuck them.

I've been stuck in DUI checkpoints before, often times upwards of 30-45 minutes waiting to roll through. As a sober driver I approve of this app to allow me to avoid the unnecessary hassle associated with "guilty until proven innocent".

JSt0rm what part of La Ceinega? I'm never really on it at that time, but I take it every day from the 405 to Rodeo.

Notice the DEMOCRAT next to their name. I doubt they have a constitutional right to do much of anything about it. Public roads, we can report whatever the hell we want.

Hell, they should look at it like this. Have cops or informants report checkpoints on the major road so all the drunks take the side roads and in reality you setup the checkpoints there.

Ah, I never head up that far. They like to do one near the Torrance/Redondo Beach border on Torrance Blvd next to Bishop Montgomery High School. I believe they also like to do one near Prospect and PCH. I haven't seen them in awhile, but the cops don't all sit near there, they sit undercover all over the place and if anyone tries to avoid it you'll see 2 or 3 cars lights flip on out of no where and come after you.

You'd be in trouble if they start pulling over people as they leave bars.

They actually use that tactic a lot around here and I'm sure everywhere else as that would be the best place to keep drunks off the road. Never had a problem with it. But nice try at an insult.

Yep, the democats want to take it even further.

Taking sides is what the problem is. R's and D's are the same wolf in different sheep's clothing. We should be standing up together against the two party system, it's destroying America.

I don't agree with banning these apps...Guilty until proven innocent is BS.

Why thank you. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you must be a drunk due to the incorerent posts you make. Thinking about it though, when getting bombed it's easier for you to post from your basement than it would be from a bar.

Have you considered the problem may not be them? R's and D's want the same things, they're approach is different. Like I said, they're destroying American, so IMO the two parties can both go fuck themselves.

Just figuring this out now? Freedom ain't free boy, it costs a pretty penny and they mean to keep it that way.

Just figure it out now? No, not by any means. I'm just always taken aback by how many people are oblivious to this shit. They think the government is out to help them.

If there was ever any doubt, this kind of stuff should make it clear to everyone. Both parties agree on totalitarianism and authoritarianism. They just bicker about how and when to expand control over the lives of everyone, and what aspects need to be controlled first. The two party system is killing this country.

4 senators sent letters to these companies to take the apps down. Nothing official has happened here, there has been no laws restricting the sale of these apps or any of that nonsense. If anyone deserves a slap on the wrist here, its RIM for actually complying to the senator's demands.

Its a refreshing change of pace to see senators "blackmailing" (the assumption here is that the carrier's lobbyists will get less face time with the senators) corporations instead of simply doing whatever the hell they're told to do.
