Unions...

This is a pretty atypical situation. As we saw from how the replacement refs performed the "real" refs do actually have a pretty unique set of skills. I don't blame them for trying to get as much money for those skills as possible. The typical UAW slug isn't the best at anything.

Rumor was the NFL was playing hardball because the player contract is going to be re-negotiated soon and they wanted to show they were willing to fight salary/benefit increases

I thought the players union and the NFL just signed a ten year contract.

The regular refs are praying they don't blow a big call tonite.

Insane that the whole thing was over 3 million dollars in extra costs to the league.

For the refs it was a bigger issue since they would have had to take off one game a year and lose that salary, plus they would have have lost a lot off their pensions.

They're probably rusty, it'll take like 2 or 3 games to shake the cobwebs off.

And that's what can happen when you replace unions with cheap labor.

With the obscene amount of money the NFL makes, I'm surprised the refs didn't ask for more. They certainly deserve it, imo. Just take a look at the past few weeks D:
Then fire the bad refs and hire the good refs.
The market dictates the pay for the refs... not a union.

Eventually, the new refs would get better or the NFL would shut down from pissed customers and the NFL would have to pay the good refs more.

Unions are useless.

This coming from the idiot that just posted in the thread to keep trolls out of ATOT.

You, along with quite a few of you, are perhaps the most retarded fuckers on the face of the planet.

Mods, after you give him a suspension feel free to delete this post.

Ed Hockley (Mr Guns, as I call him) has been running weekly training sessions during all of this with ~90% attendance rates. They also get tested weekly.

It better not. Especially when the replacement refs didn't even get that. People were on their shit like flies on stink from second one.

Granted most announcers are former players and hate the NFL in terms of labor negotiations so they were shilling for the regular refs.. but it'll be interesting to see the type of bitching that goes on from here on out when bad calls get made.

Like it will make any difference.
Estimates have put the worldwide gambling swing on the final play of the Green Bay/Seattle game at around $300 million. If it had been called correctly, Seattle doesn't cover the spread; instead, they get the win. $300 million is a bit of a difference.

They got 4 preseason games. That's always been the period for NFL refs and players to get live game action.

It being shitty is not dependent on whether I am watching or not. This is evidenced by the fact that I don't watch and its still shitty.

Professional football is an absolute joke.
Your opinion is still shitty whether anyone listens to you or not.

All of the replacements have been officiating for many, many years. They still were unable to break into even Division 1 in the college ranks. Basically they have reached their highest level and they are just not very good refs. While they would have gotten somewhat better if they had done more games they just don't have what it takes.

It was called correctly, I don't care what the nutsuckers at ESPN say.

you are wrong. even the nfl in their statement admitted how botched that play was, starting with the blatantly missed offensive pass interference.
