Hello. RT @adamschefter: As @mortreport is reporting, an agreement between NFL and NFLRA is at hand
21 minutes ago

Earlier reports - NFL concessions made (but no deal)

More up to date info: ESPN says there's still a couple financial points to work out (pension), but odds are that'll be done by this weekend.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled football.

They jumped the gun on that report:

Both sides have made concessions on previous sticking points such as a taxi squad of 21 new officials and pension plans that sources say the final meaningful hurdle is, as one source said, "about a little more money."

They're still going to bitch. Now they'll bitch that the refs are crooked, corrupt and have been bought by fans of the other team.

yup. i was fine with the replacement refs. the "real" refs were old and screwed stuff up all the time anyway.

Meh, people always say those things, but their hearts aren't really in it. Now that we've seen what the game looks like WITHOUT good officiating, we can properly appreciate what a good job the NFL refs (usually) do.

They'll probably get a standing ovation when they come back.

heard the replacement refs were rejects from the Lingerie League.

Not surprising. I bet a lot of the replacements will be seen as "scabs" by the referee union from now on and will have a hard time getting work. Which is why, instead of getting skilled and experienced D1 refs, they really had to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find people who didn't care enough about reffing or who weren't good enough at their jobs to care about potentially losing their jobs once the lockout ends.

Maybe you could edit the title to one that is accurate?

The lovefest will last a week, then it'll be back to bitching.

well, you DO have the option of not watching. be thankful you have a choice.

It being shitty is not dependent on whether I am watching or not. This is evidenced by the fact that I don't watch and its still shitty.

Professional football is an absolute joke.

hell yea, lets all go into threads that are on subjects that we don't like and talk about them like our opinion matters!

this guy knows how shitty the NFL is because he doesn't watch it! his opinion is golden!

I think we all do that to a certain extent. I've never seen an episode of Glee, but I know that I hate, hate, HATE that show. Do I need to watch every episode before my opinion holds sway? Maybe with fans of the show, but I'm not going to change their minds with a well thought out argument, so it doesn't really do me much good. Biff is entitled to his opinion, which is probably arrived at having seen some professional football at some point in his life; it's hard to avoid it in this country. I don't agree with his opinion (which is par for the course), but this idea that we should only opine on things we like... well, that's just baffling.

Hopefully this referee debacle gets resolved quickly and we get real refs back for the remainder of the season. I don't fault the replacement refs, but they're in way over their head and simply unable to perform at an adequate level for this level of play.

so you go into glee threads and make multiple posts about how bad it is, even though you've never seen an episode?

No, but that's a personal decision not to participate in a discussion I have no interest in. My opinion on Glee is just as valid as someone who is a fan of the show; moreso, actually, since anyone who is a fan of Glee has proven themselves incapable of rational thought. If Biff wants to offer his opinion on the NFL, he should feel free. If his opinion doesn't matter to you, you should feel free to ignore it. Saying that only people who agree with you should post in a thread does nothing to foster a discussion; it just turns into an echo chamber, and we get enough of that as it is since basically everyone agrees that the replacement refs are not doing the NFL any favors.
