Now that you're an adult...

Weirdly, yes. I don't know why. Typically the stuff they announce I'm not wealthy enough to rush out and buy, but I find myself becoming giddy when they start.. hahaha.

I think when I start having kids, the magic of Christmas will come back, but I always know what my wife is getting me for Christmas now (she doesn't dare buy tech stuff without asking first in fear of getting the wrong thing, lol), so the "surprise" part of the Christmas magic is gone. But with Apple, I get to have that excitement like 2-3 times a year! Who knows what they're going to bring out next?? 😀

Yesterday was way more fun than Christmas for me! I couldn't believe it but they addressed every gripe I had with the iPhone except for the customizable lock screen. Maybe that will change by the time 3.0 is released. If not, there's always jailbreaking!

Well I'm Jewish, so basically everything is exponentially more fun for me than Christmas 😉

But, yes, I do enjoy the Apple events quite a bit

The customizable lock screen isn't even that big of an issue for me, now that they have the alerts. I do hope that they customize the alerts a bit more though. I would love to be able to respond to alerts in the alert itself. So let's say I get a popup from BeeJiveIM, and I choose "Reply", it would then just popup a little text box and almost a mini client that would send the message back to the server instead of having to launch the whole app, although BeeJive has gotten much more responsive.

I don't know.. I'll probably end up jailbreaking anyway, since they haven't done anything about video recording, tethering, or background processes.

Not really, not anymore. I've lost interest in the iPhone. It's very clear that Apple's marketing strategy is to incrementally add features that should've been in 1.0, and every once in a while refresh the hardware and require that you buy a new phone to get the new features. That's distasteful enough to me that I'm no longer interested in having one. I mean, for the cost, you still can't tether, cut and paste isn't there yet, and most of all, it's locked to AT&T. I'm not the most pragmatic person, but even I cant justify throwing money at the constantly moving iPhone target.

As far as their other hardware goes, I'm moderately interested. I love my Macbook, and have no regret over the cost, but at the same time I don't perceive a ton of value in it. Not enough to make me want to buy a desktop model. The mini is semi-interesting, but if there was a model that had a 2nd HD bay and didn't take/use laptop components, I'd be much more interested. Basically, a headless iMac with a 2nd HD bay, that's all I want. Hell, I'd probably compromise and buy a mini if they'd just put an eSata port on the damn thing.

My fiancee has a first gen iPhone, and I have a 2G touch and a unibody Macbook. I'm impressed, but not to the level that I think I'm getting a great value in these products. I'll probably stick to a purchase here and there when they take a big leap, like the Macbook getting an all-metal, one-piece chassis. Their evolutionary products are of very little interest to me b/c of the lack of value in the purchase.

I am interested, but I find that with Apple it always seems to be 2 or 3 steps forward, 1 step back.

They give X, Y, and sometimes Z ... then take away V and W.

When V and W were new, Apple touted them as indispensible.
Now that X, Y, Z are out, V and W are no longer needed.

Like the Star-Bellied Sneetches.

Yea.. they do tend to do this. I don't think they did with this latest iPhone announcement. My guess is that background processes will get put into the iPhone eventually.. but I doubt it'll be before next summer, which is just plain stupid.. but I'm ok with that, at the moment.

It would be like on Christmas, your mom & dad say, "son, here's a great new toy, but you're going to have to give up your othe favorite toy."

Like the new iMacs - nice machines, but with shared graphics. Bleh. Now they'll tout integrated graphics, until the next time they use dedicated GPUs, then integrated with suck again & separate GPU will rule.
