Well, I already have a Geforce 8800GTS 640MB but I did try ordering one from Dell last night for $19.95. However, if Dell actually ships it, I'll probably sell it.

er...was that a misprinted pricing or something? I can almost guarantee they will not send it.

Imagine seeing Driver Heaven giving a bad review to AMD.... never would of thought it......

DH has been an nv leaning site for quite some time. They certainly didn't see a shimmer.

Still they are one of my favorite places because they are as a group polite and very helpful. Also do lots of nice reviews on quiet cpu stuff and sound cards.

They have the nicest presentations for sure...

I'm only upgrading to a card with the performance of a 8800gtx for the price of a 8800gts. So far, nothing fits the bill. At least at the resolution I use my x1900xt will be enough for at least another year.

AMD missed the boat with this product whatever one says. I dare say it will be ATI's worst GPU since the first Radeon which lacked the power to best a Geforce 2 GTS.

I remember the times when it took ATI years to understand that implementing a force Vsync option in the drivers was necessary. They expected everyone to just love playing games with the screen tearing all over.

Not me, I am quite happy with my 2 8800GTX's

And, for sure not after this:

The Bottom Line

?A day late and a dollar short.? Cliché but accurate. The Radeon HD 2900 XT is late to the party and unfortunately is bringing with it performance that cannot compete. The GeForce 8800 GTS 640 MB is $50 cheaper, performs better, and draws a lot less power than the 2900 XT.

This is as good as it is going to get for a while from ATI. The GeForce 8800 GTX will still dominate at the high end of the video card market. Of course we do not know about DX10 games yet, and there is no way to make any predictions how that comparison will turn out. As it stands right now the Radeon HD 2900 XT, in our opinion, is a flop. ATI needs to get its act together quickly. It needs to push out the mainstream cards soon and it needs to deliver a high end card that can actually compete at the high end of the market.

I'll say maybe.

In the end both the 2900xt and the gts640 are equal cards. Ati is late to the game, and for 70 bucks more its not worth it. I do like the hdmi audio, and the fact it can decode video on the card which the 8800 cant do.

But my pc isn't for watching movies, I have my 360/hd-dvd drive, & ps3 to take care of that.

it also uses a decent amount of power, and i'm all for quite high performance pc's.

that said, if the price was the same, i'd consider it. if the gts is cheaper i'll get that. if the gtx falls in price to be a small amount more, ~420 bucks.i'd get that.
