Now that it's warm out, what are some summer beers I should check out?

I'd advise against going near any summer beers, they're all weak fruity wheat monstrosities that are an affront to the word "beer", but I guess if you like Oberon you're into that kind of thing. Do they still make Zima?
No, they stopped making Zima a few years back.

Heady Topper.

+12 for the Canuck.

Local beer I might recommend:

blue-point-summer-ale.jpg

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin
Sierra Nevada Beer Camp
Alpine Hoppy Birthday
Green Flash Soul Style IPA
Green Flash Tangerine Soul Style

Karl Strauss Mosaic Session IPA
Karl Strauss Red Trolly
Hanger 24 Easy Glider

I like sessions for summer, they taste strong but are low ABV. Space Cake from Clown Shoes is a delicious year beer, but very strong (DIPA) For lighter taste and low ABV a lot of people like 21st Amendment's Hell Or High Watermelon. Not one I like, but it's an easy beer to pound. And to all the "summer beer?" comments. Yeah, drinking a 12%, strong tasting, thick, barrel aged barley wine when it's 100 and muggy out sucks. Same with most stouts and pretty much all porters, imho any ways.

Full Sail Session, but it was better when the price was 5.99 for a 66 oz 6 pack than 6.99 of whatever it's up to.

I've never really gone in for the seasonal beer notion.

Totally agree. Good beer is good beer regardless of anything else.

kolsch kolsch and more kolsch

But this is a good idea. Kolsch brings together a lot of what's good about ales and the few good things about pilsners, and it's great. Something else I just ran across is Ayinger's dunkel, it's "light enough for summer" or whatever crap, but it's really good.

Schlafly Raspberry Heifewiesen
Shiner Redbird(ruby red grapefruit ale)
Sam Adams Cold Snap
Any brand of Kolsch
Buffalo Bill's Orange Blossom Cream Ale
Sierra Nevada Nooner

These are my go-to summer beers

The summer shandy that john C mentioned is quite refreshing without being a sissy weak bear. I do like a nice Ale or IPA in the summer, especially after a day of yardwork; but frankly the hipster obsession with ultra high IBU beers is ruining the craft beer market.

If I want to go all-out on summer beer I'll make my own...

6 pack of whatever cheap beer you have
1 frozen can of limeade concentrate
Take the frozen can of limeade and fill it up with a citrus/lemon vodka

Stir. Enjoy. Don't stand up too fast.

😀

You're old enough to drink now?

/wipes away tears

They grow up so quickly.

Heh, yessir better believe! Been a few years past that thank you very much, hmph. :colbert:

Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin

Ah neat, have not seen this one. Does it taste anything like RJ Rocker's Son of a Peach? I'm sure you'd like it, give it a try if you can find it. Or if you're feeling bold, try Peachy King. 9% ABV version of Son of a Peach.

Yuengling IPL is pretty good and inexpensive, but you might have trouble finding it. American owned/made.
