Gibson filed for bankruptcy protection, which means that although they are temporarily unable to pay their debts, they believe they can continue to trade at a later time, likely due to either new investments or otherwise cash flow, or a restructure to lower costs. It's almost the opposite of bankruptcy, it's a statement saying "we are not going bankrupt".
While going bankrupt.

it's complicated.

i've never been a fan of Gibson guitars, be it the look, the feel, or the sound, although the SG does play well. I like my Parkers, Steinbergers, a Yamahas, and some Ibanez too.

Even if all companies stopped producing guitars, there would still be independent luthiers.

They're not going anywhere... someone will buy it if nothing else.

Also their QC is complete garbage and they charge far too much for their guitars. I have 3 Gibsons that are decent, but they all have their own weird quirks.

So, what's going to happen to these guys? Is some Chinese company going to buy their brand name and start selling crappy $99 guitars with it at Walmart?
