Now that AT&T announced their "upgraded" data plan, will you get iPhone 4/HD?

Just wanted to take a gauge on how the new and 'upgraded' data plan will impact iPhone 4 sales.

Not sure if it'll affect it much. There will be a group of people who will now be MORE likely to get one because they never planned on using much data, so the new cost structure saves them money. Then there's the group who will be LESS likely to get one now because they either already know they use quite a bit more than 2GB so they'll be paying more to get back up to that 4-5GB they plan on using. Overall it's probably a wash =/

Thinking about getting one just because I have this stupid desire to buy every new flagship smartphone that comes out. I somehow passed on the EVO4G though since I assumed it's experience was similar to that I had with the HTC Incredible (returned it).

I do know that I use a crap data usage on my Droid. I'm sitting at 3 GBs/used this month already. Definitely something to think about before switching (again).

I'll have to see what features the phone brings. I don't like how Apple locks everything down, but I have the unlimited data plan AT&T has, so I'll be grandfathered. Should AT&T do something dirty and despicable, I'll be switching carriers faster than you can say Droid.

I think the plan changes won't bring much of a net effect. Perhaps a slight positive but we will see. I say that because for the people that don't like the plan, you can just be grandfathered in on the old plan. However, I am sure some people will be like "this is the last straw and I am leaving" even though they could just keep their plan, but whatever. I suspect that the amount of those people will be similar to slightly fewer than those who are like "woohoo, a smartphone for only $55 a month!"

For those thinking about jumping ship, honestly I'm sure we will come to find out that other carriers will follow with their own tiers before long. Heck, it probably won't be long until ISPs follow suit with our internet connections. Utility companies are, and always have been, bloodsuckers!

At least a positive is that it puts a smartphone in reach of those who may have been previously unable to afford a data plan.

I do believe the tiers should be a bit more spread out...such as the first being a 500Mb tier and then perhaps a 2/4Gb tier, etc.

Like you said, it'll probably even out. But the hardcore users must be disappointed.

I've heard too many bad things about AT&T to ever even consider using them as my carrier, regardless of what phone I use on it. I haven't heard a single person who was completely satisfied with them. A few are somewhat satisfied with them or willing to take the good with the bad.

I don't really care about the iPhone. It's not bad, just not what I like. But the network is the real killer.

To be fair, I've never heard of a person completely satisfied with any cell phone company. In Colorado I've never really had a problem with AT&T, but spending the summer in Mississippi I can see that Verizon would be the best choice for coverage down here.

I'll be switching to sprint soon. My contract is up July 28th. I've had a significant increase in dropped calls the last couple months from my iPhone, plus Steve Jobs is wacko and droid has caught up with the iPhone and surpassed it. ATT and Apple are not giving me any reason to stay. Plus Sprint still has an unlimited everything plan.

Screen on it's perfect, 326ppi? that's insane. I hate AT&T but I think this phone will have me selling my Moto Droid and going back to the dark side which is AT&T. Don't even care if the data plan is gimped. I just want this phone! Once again Apple pulls ahead Can't wait to see what HTC or Motorola releases to compete with this.

You mean fail in your eyes? Because I'd make a paypal bet with anyone on here that this phone alone will outsell all Android devices combined for most, if not the entire rest of 2010. Most companies would give their left nutt to "fail" like Apple.

Can't see video chat working well on network speeds anyway. The screen is going to be a higher res I thought? The size is still fine... perfect for the pocket. Non-upgradable storage? No shit, it's an apple product =P

I dont like iPhones and detest AT&T's service. Will not be going to them for any reason. If the iPhone came over to Verizon I might possibly see an interest. But knowing what I do, Verizon would just charge more. They'd have a special data plan for just that one phone, or charge exponentially more for all phone data across the line.

I hate AT&T and I hate their service yet I'm ready to put my Droid on CL so I can get this the day it comes out, scary and sad. I expect AT&T's service will get even worse because so many people will be buying this phone. Also JB'ing will undoubtedly lead to the video calling working over 3G, data on AT&T will be absolute shit until they get their network upgraded With that said I still can't wait to get my hands on this

Boy this topic sure draws a lot of people feeling they wish to hate on AT&T.

According to some tech podcast commenators I listened to recently, any of the carriers that received the iPhone were bound to be in the same boat that AT&T has found themselves in--whether its about data tiers, network stress, etc. and so on.

Lest we forget that the smartphone explosion started with AT&T, who brought and championed the iPhone on its network and created many millions of satisfied users who found themselves drooling with their new cutting-edge mobile technology.

If it weren't for AT&T/iPhone, the way wouldn't be paved for descendants such as the EVO. And the new iPhone 4 is just as stunning with its new look and technology, as any iPhone before it was back in its particular day. And the iPhone 4 combats the EVO just as well as any previous iPhone matched against its competitors in its particular historical release.

Yeah, it's on AT&T to build up their network with the revenues they've reaped from us; but I for one am an ecstatically happy AT&T/iPhone user with all things considered--an occasional dropped call and all.

And I'm sure there's tons of other love for AT&T outside of those who like to b*tch for whatever reason--envy included.

But I called up AT&T this morning and switched to the 200MB/$15 per month plan. I haven't used 2GB of data in the last year, let alone in one month (and they let you flip back and forth between 200MB/$15 and 2GB/$25 - either way it's cheaper than what I'm paying now).

Around here, when we have big events AT&T's network drops to its knees. I wonder what it will be like once everyone has an iPhone 4. I'm still on a Touch Pro. 2 on Sprint w/ an everything plan going month-to-month. I'll wait awhile to see some feedback on the EVO and iPhone 4 before I make a jump.

Umm the built in 16GB or 32GB trumps 1GB to 8GB built in + 16GB Class 10(an additional $100) or 32GB class 2 microSD(an additional $200 bucks) every single day of the week. Even with Froyo you are going to have to root to use most apps from your MicroSD, as most developers are opting to not allow their apps to be used from MicroSD(Froyo doesn't automatically allow all apps to be used from MicroSD, it allows developers the option to allow it). As for "free" hot spot by rooting your Evo, sooner or later Sprint will figure a way to catch up to you.

The Evo isn't going to save Sprint. When Sprint eventually gets bought, there will no longer be unlimited data. 2011/2012 there will be a big time spectrum crunch and no US cellular company will continue to have unlimited data(atleast not for cheap).

Screen rez is really the only cool thing about the phone. Everything else is meh but everyone knows it'll sell like hotcakes. Anything Apple sells crazy but just because it sells a lot doesn't make it the best.
