You should have gone to the customer service desk. They have the special edition 100 gigs stashed away. I went up to the desk and asked for one and they gave it to me.

Yes, I bought one last night and the $40 rebate that printed at the register is for drives purchased between 1/5 and 1/11.

You mention returning/rebuying on Sunday... how does this work? You'd still only have 1 UPC code for 2 seperate rebates.

Think I'm going to stick to the 10% coupon and $40 rebate, and I'm stopping to look for the rumored Newsweek with $10 instant gift card. I'll let you know what I find.

** EDIT - the $10 instant gift card in Newsweek is just a coupon, really. Not able to use it in conjunction with other coupons or offers so you're definately better off with the 10% coupon.

Actually, it'd be $349-10% -> $315-$10 instant GC -> $305-$90 mir -> $215 for Drivezilla.

Great deal, but I think I'll get 2 of the 100GB drives instead.

Here in Winston-Salem, they were overflowing with the 100GB drives... they had just put them out on the floor and the very top shelf was just overloaded. They had a ticket up that DID show the $40 off rebate, but it was one with absolutely no other info on the drive, as if it were only gonna be temporary (as said here already). I was told by one of the guys in the department that they have a thing like Circuit City where if you buy something and it goes on sale, just bring the receipt in within 14 days and they'll give you the difference.

This is what i'm planning on doing.

Still 3 of these out on the shelf at the Culver City (Los Angeles) BB, and two of the 200GB. The rebate is listed right on the shelf tag, and it does expire on 1/11. I used the 10% preferred customer for a pretty good deal.

For anyone looking for it, they also have one of the Sony DRU500 DVD writers in the cabinet next to these.

The 200 is faster than the smaller SEs by quite a bit, so if you want speed then 1 200 would be better than 2 100s

Only if you aren't doing raid... put 2 100's in RAID and you'll definitely be faster than 1 200

Just to verify, there is a $40 rebate current right now till 1/11 on the SE 100 gb drive.

If you can wait till Sunday, their new ad starting 1/12 states that there are mulitple rebates of $40 and $20 for a total of $60 off which definately makes this even hotter. BTW, there is a nice rebate on the $200 GB also right now til 1/11, unfortunatly there is nothing in the ad mentioning whether or not that will be renewed for next week. Check in on Sunday!

I'll edit the thread title to make it a little more clear

Ck your receipts before leaving the store. They just scammed me for $10 off instead of 10% off so I'm shorted $5, so now I have to straighten that out.
(I used a for-real coupon cut out of RollingStone).

So I bought my drive today and i have the 40 dollar rebate. If I show them the receipt on sunday or whenever, they will give me the $20 difference since it is part of the new sale?

While there wasn't a spot identified on the shelves, there was a lot of empty spaces. And, I saw at least 25 of the 100GB WD hard-drives on a top shelf here in Springfield, IL. I think I will just wait till Sunday for mine...

Yes it is only ATA 100. Only Maxtor makes ATA133 drives as far as i know since it is their standard. ATA133 only matters with drives bigger than 137GB. There is no tangible performance advantage that ATA133 offers over ATA100.

ATA 100 yes, of course will work at slower speeds if that was your concern ie 66, 33 etc

the sale starts Sunday and like everything in the 1/12 ad it will be good through the week, but with any of the better deals at BB (or anywhere for that matter) these will likely dissapear pretty quickly so get them while you can, or try to get one held for you. (good luck with that they usually won't hold them for more than 24hours if at all). Of course, becuase it is an advertised price you can always go in and get a rain check and pay nothing until they get them back in and they'll honor this Sunday's price. You may lose the extra coupon savings though. YMMV

oh one more thing? will they except a scanned and printed version of the magazine ads? And can you buy two and still get the rebates?

Starting SUNDAY CompUSA has the WD 100gb Non-SE drive for $139.99 - $10 Instant Savings - $50 MIR = $79.99 ...

If you're lucky, PM it to BestBuy for $129.99 - 110% PM ($2) = $127.99 - 10% off coupon = 115.19 - $40 MIR - $20 MIR = $55.19!!!!! YMMV on the pricematch of course.

Wait nevermind. I jumped the gun an realized that its actually the BBRTL (2mb cache) not the JBRTL (8mb cache) ... You can still attempt to pricematch, but BB will probably call you on it. (The ad itself does not make any mention of model number or the amount of cache though).
