Just noticed these retail boxed, special edition, 100 gig, 8mb cache western digital hard drives at my local Best Buy, price comes up at $149.99 - $40 manufacturer mail-in rebate bringing it to a decent price of 109.99 AR for one of the nicest hard drives on the market. For more info on this HD see WD web specs , storagereview.com's first mention of the drive when it was still called WD1000BB-SE or storagereview.com on the SE 120GB. It seems these are likely being stocked for a Sunday promotion but they are on the shelves as of 1/8 so get them while they're hot.

*** EDIT*** Save yourself another $15 with a BB 10% off peripherals coupon from any of the following magazines, bringing your total to $94.99 AR's and coupons.

10% Off Coupon - Expires 01/31/03

Sports Illustrated - Nov. 18 - pg. 71

PC World - Dec. - pg. 6

Blender - Dec. - pg. 117

Maxim - Dec. - pg. 117

Rolling Stone - Dec. 26 - pg. 34

Sports Illustrated - Dec. 16 - pg. 87

Sports Illustrated - Dec. 30 - pg. 17

(shamelessly ripped from a fatwallet post)

***MORE EDIT*** If you can wait till Sunday 1/12, their new ad states that in addition to the $40 mail-in rebate there is going to be another $20 mail-in rebate @ Best Buy, bringing your total to $74.99 after both rebates and coupon.

for additional savings, as someone mentioned, it is also a preferred customer weekend, however, not being a preferred customer, I'm not sure what kind of deals are possible or if they can be using in conjunction with the above mentioned rebates/coupons.

**another edit** PM to the non-SE 100gb 2mb WD HD at Circuit City (129.99 - 10 IR - 50 MR = 69.99) (if you can swing it) to get it down to $55.19 after 110% pricematch guarantee

heheh sweet!

In any of a number of recent magazines, was in previous issues of Maxim, Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone, and more.

Someone mentioned in another post that there's a Best Buy $10 instant gift card coupon (with any pc peripheral purchase of $50 or more) in the current Newsweek. Haven't confirmed this but just bought one of these drives so I'm gonna go hunt this issue down.

I too would like to know if there's an additional 10% coupon good for this weekend. That would bring the price of it to $85 ($149.99 - 10% = $134.99 - $40 rebate = 94.99 - $10 gift card = $84.99). Sweet.

FYI... went to BB in emeryville, ca after seeing original post (thx OP!!!) and picked the HD up w/ a 10% coupon. However, the shelf tag was removed and replaced with a handwritten tag, but didn't list the 40$ rebate on the HD! There IS a 40$ rebate on the drive, even though its not listed on the shelf tags (have a sneaking suspicion they're not being too honest @ the emeryville store about the rebates, for some reason!) Dont know if this is emeryville store only that's hiding the rebate on the tags, or all BB?

Thanks for the update on the extra rebate... I'm now planning to do a return/rebuy so I can get the extra rebate form this weekend (the drive may sell out soon; theyre not listing it online and they only had 3 on the shelves when I was there, dont know how many BB will stock on this deal). Hopefully I wont have to use another 10% off, dont know... But anyways, awesome post!

so like how quiet is this drive... i was eyeing it today at BB, but the box didn't indicate it being one of those ultra quiet drives like the 'Cuda IV or Maxtor Ultras...

Bump for great deal. This is also a Preferred Customer sale weekend, maybe use one of those promotions on this deal.

The only coupon I know about is the one in the 'zines, and it says: "Not good in combinaiton with other coupons or offers." Don't know about any Gift Card Coupon.

There's a link to a printable 10% coupon that Best Buy supposedly sent out to people floating around.

Very quiet. I both a CUDA IV and this one - the difference bt the two is very slight.

Thanks...I'll be at BB first thing Sunday morning since my crap IBM drive just bit the dust. That's two new IBM drives that I've had croak in the last year. No wonder they got out of the hard drive business.

yes, ctk, you can. We (i say we, cause i work there :( ) have a 30 price match, so even if you didnt know it was going to be cheaper in a week, you could still bring your receipt in as long as the cheaper price is ongoing, and get the difference in price and or additional rebates!

Cheers

What type of deal could u get with a Staples pricematch? Do they match the rebates and then add their coupon?

Thats what i was wondering. If i have to i'd wait for the rebates but i'd rather just have it outright ;)

I just picked one of these up from Best Buy, and the rebate form says this $40 rebate expires tomorrow the 11th... I don't know if it will extend past that or not... just thought i'd let you know. Doesn't need to be postmarked till Feb. 11th, so who knows.

Anyways, I plan on taking the receipt back in on Sunday and getting some more money back because of the sale.

Just bought one and yes, there was no mention of the $40 rebate on the shelves. Also, they only had 2 out on the floor...Probably hiding them until Sunday :)

no love at my local BB. 60, 80, and 120 on the shelfs. they are prolly stashing them all away for sun.

you've won this round, so far...best buy.

thing that gets me is when i go in to buy it, they'll be sold out. and the people buying it wont have 10% off coupons and they'll prolly wont mail in the MIR. not only that, they're gunna dime out extra cash to have BB install it. im at least socking it to 'THE MAN'. :)
