XBOX could be the next Dreamcast.

Even "the analysts" say that won't happen. Both Sony and MS have other ventures to support the consoles during the research and growing phases. Sega had nothing else.

My kids bought an Xbox for only one reason, the GPU and CPU are faster than the PS2 and GC, and it comes with a HD and ethernet port. They figured the games will eventually catch up to the machine itself, then watch out!

If anything, the GC will go first. It selling third behind the PS2 (big number 1) and Xbox in the US. Unfortunately, the GC has achieved the label of being a kiddie/toy console.

Nah, GCN is exponentially outselling XBox in Japan and Europe, they are taking some of Sony's market share worldwide (NOT XBox), and TONS more GCNs will be sold in the US soon. They'll HAVE to drop the price now that the other two did. Plus, they have some awesome games lined up for the next several months.

Remember, Nintendo is the most profitable company in terms of the console market.

Bah, I dont believe it. Sony said they weren't going to drop their prices, but they dropped it by a whopping $100 which is a significant amount.

If Nintendo doesn't drop their price, that'll be one of the stupidest market decision ever. They're already not selling quite that well especially compared to the PS2. Why would anyone take a machine w/ no dvd and small game library over a already proven machine w/ dvd capabilities and a huge game library now that they are at the same price? The $100 price difference was a major selling point of the Gamecube... but now that its gone...

I want a Nintendo Gamecube because I love those fun party type of games like Mario Tennis, Golf, Smash Brothers, Pikmin, etc., but hell no am I going to buy it for $199, when I can get the PS2 is $199. I can just as equally enjoy FFX, GTA3, etc. with all the accesorries and game prices being lower than that of the Gamecube also.

I love Nintendo. But if they don't dropped their Gamecube price to $149 or even less, I don't plan on buying it. I'm thinking about picking up a PS2 right about now though...

Oh, I'm sure they are going to drop the price eventually. I just wouldn't put into your summer budget. DVD is not really a selling point for gaming machines, as they mentioned, and a small library is adequate compared to a large one with the same number of quality games. The average gamer only buys one to two games a month. Of course, this board is probably filled with your 'above average gamers'.

Resident Evil, and games in the works, will kill the kiddie notion. Hell, I'm 30 and can't wait for Mario Sunshine, or even Zelda - 'Bugs Bunny' style. If you are waiting for a price break on the Gamecube, make sure to go ahead and tell Santa early. ;)

I correctly predicted the XBox price drop and you guys didn't. 'Nuff said, and that's all I'm going to say.

What's so special about the Nintendo that makes it more profitable?

Nothing. They know how to maximize revenue while minimizing costs. They make far more than Sony while selling far fewer systems.

I believe GCN sales were on an upswing. EB said the GCN was outselling both the PS2 and Xbox. Here is the exact info from http://www.msnbc.com/news/752209.asp?cp1=1

"There is no indication that Nintendo is planning a price move," said John Taylor, video games analyst for Arcadia Investment Corp. "If one comes, it will be a big surprise to everybody. I don't think that Nintendo needs to move its price. GameCube is performing pretty well at retail right now. Resident Evil in particular is running well for it."

Peter Roithmayr, vice president of merchandising, video game division, for Electronics Boutique, confirms Taylor?s opinion of both Nintendo?s positioning and the sales of GameCube since the April release of Resident Evil.

"Ever since Resident Evil shipped for GameCube, GameCube has been the number one seller [among game consoles]," he said. This is a particularly impressive turn as Electronics Boutique stores have typically sold higher percentages of Xbox and PlayStation 2 than other retailers.

They may just wait and see how sales are affected first. Then maybe cut it $20 and bring it down to $150 in the fall.

I miss the days when you got the NES, 2 Controllers and a Game for less than $100....

Nintendo did cut the price of their controllers to $25 and the soon to be released wireless wavebird to $35. A larger memory card (MC 251) is expected in June for $20. I want to see the SD Memory Card Adapter!

BTW--That is the reason I bought a GCN. The games are just so much more fun to me. Now if they could just release a good arcade and simulation racer!

Don't forget about the GB and GBA. They really help Nintendo's bottom line as well.
