I think all of game companies will be out of business soon. They have all made a major mistake in not consulting with this group first.

That made my day! Funniest line of text on here in a long time! 🙂

Well, I have owned every game console almost since the original NES (the only one I haven't owned is the NeoGeo). I got the PS2 when it first came out along with five games but the only one I enjoyed was SSX. Madden was o.k.. Unreal Tournament sucked compared to the PC version. Tekken was o.k.. Ridge Racer looked like a PS1 game almost. I didn't buy another PS2 game until GT3. Playstation 2 was a major hyped up console. I think Sony is trying to do the same thing with the PS3. Trying to build momentum for the PS3 like it tried with the PS2.

I have the Gamecube. I never play it. I had 5 games and they all are boring after a few minutes. I used to have an XBox but during Christmas, I needed money for gifts and so I had to sell one of my consoles and the first offer I got was for my Xbox (no one wanted my GC bundle).

This $199 price if true is great. I was looking today to see if I could find an XBox used. I think I will hold off an wait for the price cut since I won't have the money for one until the 15th. If I could, I would gladly trade my GC and all my games (I sold two so I only have three games left) for an XBox. The only reason I am holding onto my Gamecube is because I am waiting to see how Zelda and Metroid will be. So far, I think GC games have been a major dissappointment.

from planetxbox, sales stats from japan.

PlayStation 2: 1,187,000
Game Boy Advance: 900,000
Game Cube: 484,812
Xbox: 164,000

I think this is reason enough to reduce the price to $199.
pretty sad number for xbox though 🙂

ahahahahahahahaha Easygoing, that was a good one

a bunch of expert consultants we have here, dont' we! lol!!!!!!!!!!

I think I have heard enough from everyone. I interned at MS, and I have insider knowledge of the XBOX. Pretty much, their main goal was not to destroy all it's competitors, but just to make a dent in the industry, and I think the XBOX has done that. It only took em 6 months to develop the machine, and it's more powerful then anything out there, but they still need experience in games. MS has big plans for the XBOX, and will slowly take over. MS has some pretty smart analysts, so I'm sure they already took into account many things before deciding to reduce the price, and they prolly planned on reducing the price. In my opinion, I think many people are foolish when they just buy because they are being loyal to a company. For example, the GameCube sucks; they just recycle games that the original Nintendo had, but with better graphics. The only other good system is the PS2, but even that is pretty basic. It doesn't even have 4 slots for multiplayer. I'm also not saying that the XBOX is any good, because it has it's problems too, but atleast it's making some innovations. Like you can have your own music in games, and there is no need for a memory stick. Not to mention, the superior graphics.

I think the real problem with all these systems is the lack of gaming creativity. We've seen the 2-D fighting games, the RPG's, and the first person shooter. Really, the only new type game that came out was MGS2, and Halo. That's my two cents.

<< WHAT? Do you live in a cave? Staples generally sells office products and computer stuff. I'd love to get my hands on whatever you were smokin'... >>

just for your infomation......staples does sell PC games.......
Also, i didnt say that Staples carries it...i just asked if they do.......
Also, i asked whether there are other places that accept coupons like Staples ?

Please read the post properly before posting.....

Oh yes.....one final thing.....I DONT SMOKE and I DONT LIVE IN A CAVE

Thanks

I didn't bother scrolling thru all the posts so if this opinion was already stated, ignore my sorry @ss.

Even with more powerful technology and stronger muscle, I don't think Microsoft can penetrate this market smoothly. Looking at all the releases so far, the only sure superiority is graphics. Game play (for MS-developed) games are average. If you like stunning graphics but so so game play, Xbox is for you.

Xbox has full support from non-Japanese developers, which is pretty good; but those developers also fully support Sony. However, as you can see Xbox is missing solid Japanese titles such as Metal Gear Solid 2, Tekken 4, Virtual Fighter, etc. I think the Japanese developers join together and put up resistance for Xbox to penetrate further.

MS did develop a few top notch games, but I think it's a mistake NOT porting them to other consoles. MS's core business is software development, why not stick with it and grow it? I think they forgot how the Wintel platform beat out Apple in the first place. My take is, if PS3 is backward compatible and network/broadband-ready, even if the graphics engine is not better than Xbox I might just skip Xbox altogether. Missing out the few Microsoft games doesn't hurt me.

Bah, ps3. If Microsoft doesn't release a competing console, then I'll just go the Nintendo route.

I refuse to give into the Dark Side.

I would have to agree that what killed the Sega Dreamcast was its lack of marketing. And when they did start spending more on marketing it was too late and the hype around the PS2 was too great. Remember those commercials for Dreamcast "its thinking" Also I don't think pirating made a difference for the downfall of the dreamcast. Actually I think it probably helped them sell more dreamcasts because it made it more popular around the l33t crowd, because these individuals HAD to buy a console in order to play the games. This probably boosted console as well as accessories sales (the need to buy more controllers) but probably not software. Because a normal individual who is PC illiterate, and bought a dreamcast would not know where to get copied games. Look at the psx, even though people can play copied games for it is still selling well. Therefore pirating was not the main cause for the downfall of the dreamcast, just the lack of marketing and promotions.

But the XBOX at $199 is a hot deal. But the ps2 does have better games like MGS2 and FFX but isn't XBOX getting Shenmue II (also on dreamcast) ?

I find this all very funny I have been following the price drop rumors for a few months now. Sony is expected to announce a price drop at E3 on May 20th not Microsoft and not Nintendo. Nintendo has said that depending on how much the Sony drop is they may drop the GameCube's price. Microsoft the company being talked about here is actually the one company that has not said anything.

No matter what is announced this month none of it will take effect until November, before the holiday season.

<< hmm.......

XBox = $199 - $40 (using coupon $40 off $200) = $160 ?
PS2 = $199 - $40 (using coupon $40 off $200) = $160 ?
Gamecube = $149 - $30 (using coupon $30 off $150) = $120 ?

Staples usually have these coupons......I wonder if staples carries any of these ? Also what other stores have coupons ? Wish DELL Carried XBox..........(then we could stack up coupons and eventually get it for ~$100 😉 )
>>

Heheheheheh....yeah....Staples has their game consoles in aisle 4 between the stationary and the correction fluid 🙂

Staples only sells business/office related items (they do have a few PC games though to go with their PC sales). Although....it WOULD be cool if the boss let me play X-Box at work 😀

<< For example, the GameCube sucks; they just recycle games that the original Nintendo had, but with better graphics. >>

*sigh*

Yeesh, I wonder why Nintendo is regarded as the most innovative gaming company period? Yeah, they must surely just make Super Mario Bros with better graphics only. I just hope you are not thinking of buying Unreal Tournament 2k2/3 or any sequels in genereal because surely they are just recycled games.

I own a GC because I want GC exclusives (Star Wars, WaveRace, Resident Evil, Smash Bros). I own a PS2 because I was taken in by the hype of GTA3 (a really cool game I may add). I don't own an XBOX simply becasue I dont care for it - eventually if they release cool games I may like ill buy it... Specially at $199 😀

This is great news.
I love my xbox and this will push sales.
And that will cause more games to be released.
Gamers are going to be the big winners here.
Sony is holding games like gta3 back from xbox by bribing game companies.
This will force sony to play more fairly.
Playstation 2 came out with zero good games.
It took almost a full year to get anything decent.
Microsoft has put their money where their mouth is.
Go Xbox.
You just wait till xbox going online this year.
It is going to be on.

Xbox and this "hot deal" have something in common -- they both SUCK! Where's the deal?

OK, who let the PS2 fanboys into an intelligent forum? Ha ha xbox=ass, boy that was clever too, probably spent all night thinking that one up. Let's stick to facts kids, otherwise buy a GC.

For facts, my son enjoys his Xbox due to Halo and DOA3, even Tony Hawk 2x is cool.

Question: He was told by some guy at Funco that PS2 games are copyable using EZCD and a AO3/4. Is this true? He has like a 140 DC backup games, and if he can safely make backups of PS2 disks he would definately spend $199 for a PS2.

<<In other news, I read the PS3 is being worked on, and it supposed to have a processor "200 times more powerful" than anything on the market (WSJ article). This I'd like to see. >>

Sounds like the claim made by Sony before the PS2 came out that it would have "Toy Story" quality graphics.

All XBox related stocks are up today. MSFT, NVidia, EA, Activition, and couple of others. And of course cisco. 🙂

Yes, Nintendo makes TERRIBLE 1st party games, and they are the only console company that remakes titles.

I think the real problem with all these systems is the lack of gaming creativity. We've seen the 2-D fighting games, the RPG's, and the first person shooter. Really, the only new type game that came out was MGS2, and Halo. That's my two cents.

Creativity? A sequel and a FPS? Hee hee.

Pikmin is the only game to show any REAL creativity recently. Guess who made it.

No matter what is announced this month none of it will take effect until November, before the holiday season.

Care to wager on that? 🙂 You say November, I'll say May.
