Hey all, I'm currently packing a TI86 and really would like something that will do symbolic differentiation. Im thinking the 89 is my best choice since some instructors wont allow a 92. Anyone think of something I can get better than the 89 that would not be a 92? Are one know where they are cheap? I'm guessing just staples and a coupon..

Wouldn't it be cool if there was a software program that emulates these calculations that the TIs do so we wouldn't have to go out and buy them?

I think there is a couple emulators. You need a image dump from the calc for it to work meaning you should own the calc to get the image from. Though I'm sure you could download them but that is illegal prob.

You could also use TI's derive software, or even Mathematica, which I have both, its just handy to have a calc in your hand at times So far the lowest price I can find is $135...I will pay $100 or less hehe

I just went out and bought the TI-89 today. The calculator ROCKS! I had the 83 before and the 89 is way better.

I've never had my TI-92+ be a problem in class(es). Calculus, physics, chemistry, statics, you name it... Either the teacher will let you use ANY calculator, or they won't let you use any at all. The only situation where it MIGHT be a problem is in placement tests, but I've never taken any anyway.

Go with the 89. They should do everything that the 92 does without the QWERTY keyboard. Then they are allowed on slanderized tests. If you have the cash go get a 89 and a 92. Learn both. The 92 is easier to use but can't be used when you need to take a real test.

Becareful about 89s...the professors here at Duke will not allow anything above 86 in Calculus classes. Check out your school so you don't waste your moneey.

I got my TI-89 for about $115 from Staples without pricematching. There was a $40 off $150 coupon and cost $149.95, add something cheap, and after tax it came to about $115.

Make sure that your professors will let you use a calcucaltor that does symbolc differentiation and integration. I too had a calc professor that didn't let you use anything higher than an 86.

The 89 does everything that the 92+ does except that it doesn't have the qwerty keyboard. It does more then the 92.

I would also look into an HP. I have heard nothing but good things about HP calculators.

The 89 is damn fine calculator.

Althought the 92 is also a fine calculator.
I belive you can't go wrong either way. If placements test are a big concern go 89 other wise like Viper spend the extra and get the 92+

Just to clear things up, the Hardware Version 1 89 is the same as a 92+, the HW2 89 has more memory that the 92+. So other than the QUERTY keyboard, their pretty much the same in functionality.

For cheap prices, try Calc.org they usually have pretty good prices.

Damn you're lucky, illkid. My PreCalc teacher got really pissed when I told her I had an 86 instead of an 83. She still lets me use it, though. Only problem is that I have to manually enter the statistics on tests that she normally links to the other kids' calcs...
