We all remember Intel's first positioning of the P4. We all remember it performed, initially, worse than any "high-end" processor back then... but that was supposed to 'take off' as soon as speed started to ramp... wich was shown when the 2.0Ghz+ processors came out.

Well, it appears that AMD will do exactly the same. If you guys ARE NOT impressed by Athlon 64/FX's performance, take a look at this:

To say the least, I am quite pleassed. It seems that ramping the clock frequency makes HyperTransport work even better! Good times will come for AMD, indeed.

Opinions?

I am currently impressed with the A64 and Athlon FX... Not to mention when they do hit 2.6-2.8ghz on stock..

Once they finally choose a socket it should be up and up from there...

@ 2.2ghz it puts a hurtin on the 3.2c

:)

Lets not forget 939-pin is compatible with DDR400 non-buffered, hence, HyperTransport will be able to be overclocked much better!

AMD 's alright, their doin' OK, the future's so bright now, they gotta wear

Seriously though, the fact that they've proven they can still compete isn't going to mean much if the public and private sectors don't purchase their products. It is a big step in the right direction though, here's to competition

BTW, anyone caught the TigerTV infomercial for the SystemMax Athlon-64 system? He was beating anyone watching it over the head with 64bit computing propaganda! :D It was refreshing and disgusting at the same time, ya know what I mean? He went on to say he exchanged explaining the 64bit computing concept for AMD selling him a limited number of Athlon-64 processors. The AMD Exec. said they are already sold out of their current supply so the reports of low yields are evidently true.

AMD can't do the same, since they are not in the same position. It's true that the Athlon 64s will get a nice boost when software support, specifically Win 64 and hardware drivers, is available, but even without that support the Athlon 64 are either ahead or about equal to the current top processors. The early P4s were quite a bit behind.

I have always bought AMD, until just last month when i got a new 2.4C doing 3.2 now.

If AMD can cut the cost on these 64's like they used to...it won't be too long when I go back to AMD again.

I'm a little miffed as to how many review sites are comparing the A64 vs the P4EE as if the EE is even available. It isn't!
