Now it's about to get scary - Wife's business really about to take off

Very nice! Good luck to your guys' business. I read this book a year ago and it seemed very helpful for small business owners (it even has it's main example being a pie shop [close to cakes]!). Check it out if you haven't done so already:

This book seems to push the franchise stuff a lot, which isn't that applicable in many cases. The rest of the advice is pretty sound though especially with the three roles of a business: "technician","manager","entrepreneur".

Your wife would be my wife's hero.

My wife (who I sarcastically refer to as the Master Baker) got her job at Panera Bread from decorating cakes at home which then got her into the bakery a KMart. She'd love to open her own shop.

Looks like your wife's cake business... Cake in the box bakery But i like pie. 😉

Yep that's it. I wasn't posting it because I didn't want anyone to think I was trying to promote it. 😛

How much was that water slide cake? Whats the water made of? I have no idea what kind of occasion that's for but its very cool looking.

That one she did for free for our son's "graduation" from pre-school a couple of years ago. The water is made out of a gel icing. Don't hold me to it because my wife does the pricing since she has a better idea of the time and costs but a cake like that would probably be $75 if not more.

You should check out the show on TLC about cakes. Forget what the name is but I see the wife watching it once in awhile.

Hmm, so cakes are recession proof? How can I leverage this knowledge?

Hey, people still get married even during recessions. 🙂

Best time for it. Wedding venues are likely to be down on business, and some will be offering wedding discounts so it's almost the best time to get married if you want a big wedding.

Heh. My wife watches those shows on TLC and Food Network all the time. Duff from Ace of Cakes is her hero.
