compared to what?? sure they don't have 30 tape long soaps in japanses/chinese. but so what? they have had most every indi film thats out on dvd, a decent variety of anime, not everything but enough. major films they have em all. hk/jp/french, documentaries/hbo tv series, etc too. compare that to blockbuster and they have probably 50 times the selection atleast.

Sorry you were disappointed that they don't carry pr0n (or your mom's German schisse movies ;) ). But their selection of regular movies is excelent.

Care to elaborate? They have an excellent selection of chinese, hong kong, and japanese discs. I suppose if you're looking for pirate / unreleased / other-region DVDs they "suck." Sure you can't rent "The Kingodm" but it doesn't have a US distributor. Other classics like "Wings of Desire" and the Three Colors trilogy aren't even out on DVD yet. Netflix doesn't do thier own importing (which is illegal for companies *) but most any DVD available domestically is carried by them. * or maybe not, since Amazon imports all kinds of music CDs, but certainly too expensive to be practical.

Seriously, it sucks. They have a huge selection of foreign films, all that I've never heard of and none that have won academy or cannes awards. I look for mainly european foreign films that I've seen from blockbuster, and they have NONE!

Jean de florette
Source de Manon
NO Giraurde (sp?) Depardieu films, and he's probably the best french actor of all time!! (camille claudel, cyrano de'bergeraque, and the two mentioned above)
The Bandit
Children of Heaven
Color of Paradise (oops they have this now)
Kundun
The Dinner Game
Indochine
Run Lola Run
Juliette Binoche Films (only chocolat - American film)
Catherine Denueve films
Amerik (middle eastern?)
Au Revoir les enfent
The Last Emporer
An iranian film about a guy who wants to commit suicide (???)

They have a large amount of Hong Kong movies and a number of german and french titles (15-20 each, big deal), and a very small selection from other regions. Netflix foreign films SUCK! :p

Hmm, looking at your first few, netflix shows these as available to rent:
Jean de Florette
Manon of the Spring
10 other Gerard Depardieu non-US (though not cyrano - it's not out on dvd)
The Dinner Game
Kundun
Last Emperor
Run Lola Run

...so far all I checked that are on DVD are available. "search" is your friend :)

netflix can't stock titles that don't exist on DVD, so yes their VHS selection is lousy :)

Thanks dude. This is very interesting because they don't show up in the individual foreign film categories. Here's the Foreign Films/French titles link and none of them are listed individually, but yes, when you do a main "search", they appear.

This is very confusing although encouraging. :)

That makes sense, I gave up on using their categories years ago except for casual browsing -- if I know what I'm looking for I always use "search"

I used to rent from Netflix, but I used to hate waiting 2-3 days. Usually when i wanna watch a movie I wanna watch it right away cause that's what I'm in the mood for. I'd rather drive 30 minutes to get a movie than wait for it for a few days.

btw, their service was realy good. Never had a problem
