Now is better than ever to join Netflix

I have enjoyed Netflix's service for the past two years. I get the movies I want usually within 2-3 days of them being sent off. And rarely do I have a probelme with them being in stock (Beautiful Mind will be here tomorrow )

Anyway.. it turns out Netflix has added 10 new distribution centers to speed up delivery time.

Ok basically its like blockbuster but for the lazy (lol which for you apparently is a good thing) They have different plans for different amounts of money but the basic option is that you get to have 3 dvds out at a time for 20 bucks a month. You can keep them as long as you want and as soon as you send the one you have back in they'll send the next one you want. You keep of queue of movies you want online and rank them in order you want to see them and they'll go on down the list sending them as you keep sending them back. Having three works (even if it takes a while to send them) because you can have one in the mail coming to you, have one in the mail going to them, and have one at your house, or you could have all three at your house and send them back at your lesiure. Anyway they are adding new distribution centers to cut down on the time that it takes for the dvds to get to them and you. Its a really good system.

I was with them for a couple of months a while back and I would order movies I was in the mood to watch and by the time they got there I had downloaded them, er I mean rented them elsewhere....or else wasn't in the mood to watch that type of movie anymore...

We had a local place here that had unlimited rentals for $20 a month as well, you could have 2 movies out at once - very cool as it was a block from where I lived...but then the guy decides to move to Japan for some reason....

What's more important, me renting movies, or going to stupid Japan? Grrrrrr.

yup a really good system. its not perfect, you might not get your first choice right away because its popular. but just keep it at the topo f your queue and you'll eventually get it. the library of dvds and good movies that exists is so extensive it doesn't matter really. my queue is over a hundred movies long

as for videostores with unlimited plans, the problem with vid stores is the mega chains keep censored versions of some movies, or atleast the nondirectors cut. netflix doesn't pull censorship and they support widescreen unlike turds like blockbuster grr.

and selection, a video store has a tiny fraction of the total dvd library that exists right now. there are dvds for even the oldest good movies out there its all very kewl. i ussually rent all those indi films and stuff i don't bother watching in the theater. box sets like sex and the city and sopranos, etc etc etc

anime (Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, A Wind Named Amnesial)
fantasy (Iron Monkey, The Duel, Chinese Ghost Story)
Hong Kong gun operas (Hard-boiled, A Better Tomorrow 1-2, Time and Tide)
as well as French, Indian, German, British "hat movies" (Merchant-Ivory), etc.

If you just rent the Blockbuster top 40, then you might as well keep going there.

I tried their free service for a month trial a while back and it rocked. I don't know where the distribution center was, but they got here quick. Spending 5 minutes on their website is much more convenient than driving to the video store, shuffling thru the aisles and waiting in line behind all the mongoloids. Maybe I wouldn't be such a netflix zealot if we had a blockbuster alternative around here.

I wouldn't rent from Ballbuster on a bet! We have a local chain that is far better but you guys have made some excellent points.

It depends on how much you rent. In my first 2 months of using NetFlix I watched about 25 movies. For me to rent those from Blockbuster, it would've cost me about $100 instead of $40.

heh yea, thanx to netflix i've watched a great deal of oscar winning/nominated or classic movies, tv shows, anime.. probably almost 200 so far if i had rented from a chainstore i woulda paid quite a hefty amount. its about 4 bux a dvd rental at a store

i probably watch more movies then tv now. all those classic movies i missed cuz i was a kid like the godfather etc...or ones that you know about from popular culture but never seen hehe and even "crap" like dude wheres my car is easily justified because you don't shell out 4 bux for it.

ugh what? i've rented stuff like in the mood for love and countless other foreign movies from hk just fine. definetly stuff blockbuster doesn't carry

I have a great local video store that has a nice selection of whatever you want (foreign, fantasy, new release, oldies, whatever), and doesn't censor anything.

But as soon as I move back to college next school year I think I am going to get Netflix.

Netflix is perfect for people like me who pay at least $10/month in late fees alone at the video store.

I've been meaning to join for a while and just tried a minute ago but their site is temporarily down.

The only thing missing is that they probably don't have video games do they?

Care to elaborate? They have an excellent selection of chinese, hong kong, and japanese discs. I suppose if you're looking for pirate / unreleased / other-region DVDs they "suck."

Sure you can't rent "The Kingodm" but it doesn't have a US distributor. Other classics like "Wings of Desire" and the Three Colors trilogy aren't even out on DVD yet. Netflix doesn't do thier own importing (which is illegal for companies *) but most any DVD available domestically is carried by them.

* or maybe not, since Amazon imports all kinds of music CDs, but certainly too expensive to be practical.
