A coworker is reviewing some contract bids. The question shouted over the cubical wall was "Cubic meters aren't the same as square meters, are they?" I had to explain that cubic meters is a volume measurement (like gallons) and square meters is an area measurement (like acres). Yes, I had to explain it. I had to explain it. I had to explain it. I...had...to...explain...it. 😱
 
If that was only the dumbest quesiton asked by kids these days.

I weep for our future when I overhear conversations from anyone under the age of 20. Talk about a generation as dumb as rocks and a broken moral compass...

What's really sad is how long it took me to remember how to edit tags. 🙁

Anyway, the coworker is older than me.
 
As soon as you say any kind of metric unit, a lot of people will either switch off, or panic.


Also, square meters = cubic kilograms.

The resistance to metric units is mind boggling. Making measurements hardly gets any easier, yet people still cling to their caveman units :^/

My only issue with metric is that I grew up on Imperial unit insanity. Ounces in a pint in a quart in a gallon in a godthissucks. But that's the system in which I'm calibrated.

When it comes to doing engineering calculations, I prefer to convert everything to metric before doing anything else. The units make more sense, and if something seems to be off by a factor of 10, it's probably a unit screwup.

Oh, and for those who didn't know, the Imperial unit for mass is the slug. There's something you definitely hear every day.
