Now for bid on eBay: a whale's life.

I am on my boat right now about the stick the harpoon in. Send me 200K to an account of my choice or the whale gets it.

How many people do you think would shell out $20 to help save your life? Move on, troll.

My wife says I keep a whale in my pants. I'm doing my fair share of carrying the weight of saving the whales.

I'm pretty sure she meant "blubber" not a whale. I can understand the confusion though 🙂

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.

Sure, just PM me your bank account and routing number 😉

there is something repulsive and immoral about a person who would kill a creature like that with a harpoon, which is basically a very protracted and excruciating manner of death.

And wrecks the skin 🙁

If I were to kill a whale, I wouldn't do it cruelly. Maybe I'd take a giant ball made of some sort of whale bait (fish meat, whale kibble, etc) and have a C4 hidden in the middle. Then, when the whale eats it, detonate the C4 and it will painlessly remove it's head from the rest of it's body.

There is something repulsive and immoral about a person who would invest in preventing the death of a whale while condoning the death-by-suction killing of humans, which is the very protracted and excruciating manner of death used in nearly all abortions.

"excruciating" is an extremely misleading term. Most abortions occur before the fetus has a fully working brain.

Btw, thanks for totally derailing the thread.

Even Planned Parenthood admits that about 45% of abortions occur after 8 weeks:
Between 1990 and 1997, the number of abortions in the United States fell from 1,429,577 to 1,186,039 (CDC, 2000). The CDC estimates that 55 percent of legal abortions occur within the first eight weeks of gestation, and 88 percent are performed within the first 12 weeks. Only 1.4 percent occur after 20 weeks (CDC, 2000).
Your other source states that pain sensors appear at around 7 weeks, though their pathways to the brain have not necessarily developed yet. That the second site claims the fetus to be still completely unconscious at 2 months should throw up warning flags as to its reliability, as the neurological basis for consciousness has not yet been established. I don't have my neurology book handy, but I'll try to remember to snag it from the lab when I go in tomorrow.

Of course, all this is beside the point. The point is that 4564 people have thrown money at that 'auction' already. I just wonder if humans shouldn't worry a little more about other humans than they do about whales. I like whales as much as the next guy, but I have a hard time giving money to buy the life of a whale when I know that the homeless guy a few blocks away hasn't had anything to eat today.

This point I agree with you on. It will be a great day for this world when the most important thing for us to spend our money on is helping a whale.
