I'm trying to make my way through the Resident Evil series. I have the 1st four recorded on my DVR and the latest is available on Starz.

To this point I'm about half way through the second one. These movies aren't as bad as many say they are although the first one is superior to the second one so far.

After 3(which is better than 2, and...slightly better than 1?) they go downhill fast.

They're not bad. Speaking of... I have yet to watch World War Z. Anyone have some input on that one?

I enjoyed it. It's fun.

It's probably one of the better "video game" movies in existence. Almost like watching a "let's play..." video except it's not a game.

The Resident Evil movies are definitely only B movies, but I liked how the last one returned to (spoiler plot points) to complete the story of the first. Each one has its moments.

They're also better written than the Underworld movies, though that isn't saying much.

I agree that the last one was better than 4 and 5....but 5 is just an abomination and it wouldn't be hard to be better than that :)

I was entertained by RE 5, that's all I ask for from the series. Stuff blew up good, Jovovich shot and chopped up monsters, Rodriguez had fun playing an evil badass.

i watched again, for the third time (although the first time i saw this, i liked it so much, that i immediately watched it again)

Simon Del Desierto - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0059719/
a magnificent little film by Luis Brunel

This is a 1965, B&W short film, running at a mere 43 minutes, shot almost entirely on one single location.

Simon is a friar, most pious man. He has recently spent 6 years on a pillar in the middle of the desert, to better reach God. He is gifted a taller pillar by a man whom he previously blessed, and while changing from one pillar to the other, a host of various churchgoers visits him, hoping for a miracle. Simon obliges, however he doesn't go easy on the crowd.
Later, Simon is approached by a young woman, who tempts him into sin.

Honestly, you need a solid background in Catholic theology to understand most of the dialogue (which is in Spanish anyway, with subs), so this film may not be for everyone. If you*do* know your pope and sin and redemption, though, the film oozes with satire and criticism.

For -production - reasons, the film basically just ends around 40 minutes in. But, despite this, the absolutely perfect casting, acting, brilliant dialogue, makes this a film not to be missed.

remember, this is the guy who brought you Un Chien Andalou. Expect weirdness.

I'm a sucker for these movies; I think I have seen them all in the theatre except for the last one. The first one is still the best of course, but I have not hated any of them.

I also watched Bright recently; not sure why everyone hated it. I thought it was pretty darn watchable, though it might have made a better series so they could have done more with the world. Maybe the sequel will flesh it out more.

I agree I thought Bright would have made a much better series ala Alien Nation. The world seemed pretty interesting.

I'm all about naked women, but there wasn't much joy in this. A little surreal, and dispassionate, but interesting to watch.

Pillar groupies are the worst. You luck into a taller pillar and they're on you like a bum on baloney.

What did you think of Bright?
It had the most foul language that I’ve seen from Will Smith yet, but I enjoyed it. Not quite what I thought it would be, but a decent movie. I enjoyed the plot and story and I think there was good character development. Definitely a new twist on different species coexisting (nothing like Lord of the Rings!).

I'm glad I posted here because I didn't realize I was missing a RE movie. I don't have Afterlife on my DVR.

I can rent it for $4 on demand when I get to it but is it even necessary for the overall plot line? It didn't seem to get many stars.

one of the plagues of modern cinema is the work of multiple people who work compartmentalized from each other. This can be seen clearly in Bright, although maybe *clearly* isn't the correct term, since it seems to have flown over most heads here.

On one side you got the characters; there's Jackoby (the Orc), who is the ghetto black guy. He joins the police because he otherwise will become a criminal, but also wants to be accepted by his homeboys with whom he shares the same difficulties in life. he is profoundly divided by this existential dilemma.
And there's Ward (the Will Smith) who is the white guy cop. He keeps a facade of "keep your chin up and everything will work itself out", thankful that the problems of the black ghetto people he polices do not affect him, because he's white. But deep inside he knows this is not true, the same way the govt doesn't care about the ghetto kids, they don't care about him either - he's expendable. He wishes he could bond to his black partner, but he cannot take the emotional involvement.

This is the same kind of filmmaking that you see that Colors / Boys In the Hood period, same themes. And i like this very much, and can see that the writer who wrote these put a lot of care and depth into the dialogue. And he also did not speak at all with the other writer, the one which has the characters punch fairies in the face.

RE 5 sets up a plot point for the start of the final one, and I enjoyed it enough that I wouldn't want to have skipped it. Otherwise it's not essential. Reviews are mixed even here, but you'll be missing some fun set pieces if you give in to the naysayers.

The Flash can basically control time. No matter what Superman could attempt to do to stop the Flash, the Flash could just go so fast that he effectively stops time completely:

Not to mention run faster than Superman:

Plus he can think really fast (Matrix-style):

Now, it gets more complicated when you throw in the Flash running so fast he goes back & forward in time, or take into consideration the Superman movie where he flies around earth to rewind time, or throw in the cartoons or the live-action TV shows, because they all slightly vary on power levels, skills, and knowledge. Or, you know, the Flash could just hop back in time and erase the whole fight. Or prevent you from being born. Or punch you at nearly the speed of light. Hugely under-rated character imo. A more detailed introduction is available here:

https://www.quora.com/Who-would-win...n-though-Flash-has-the-ability-to-change-time

There are some pretty serious discussions about this topic, such as this thread:

http://www.thecoli.com/threads/is-the-flash-low-key-stronger-than-superman.541428/

It doesn't really matter though, because Batman is still the best. Everyone Knows This.

I didn't hate Bright, but man, with that concept, it could have been epic. They could have turned it into the next Breaking Bad series with everything they introduced in it, just so many cool concepts.
