i have a 120" screen with a crazy sound system and sit about 13 feet away, so yeah i think i'm good
you're next - bad/10 - what a terrible movie. i can't believe people said this movie was any good. the acting is flat out awful, and the story is just retarded. it really makes no sense and people do irrational things the entire movie. it reminded me of how stupid people acted in the purge, basically the same stupidity is in this movie. and the name "you're next" makes absolutely no sense at all either, especially the way that for some random reason, the killers spell it out in blood a couple times in the movie.
anyone who didn't see the "twist" coming must not watch many movies. i don't even think i'd call it a "twist" either. stay away from this awful flick.
The best acting job of Leo's career. Hilariously funny. Doesn't feel like a 3 hour movie. An advertisement for drug use? Not a critique at all on the most recent financial crisis? (I had thought it would be.) How was it not rated NC-17?

I completely disagree. This was hands down better than The Purge. I completely agree that people in that The Purge were stupid as hell. This movie on the other hand there was more going on that met the eye. Hard to go into detail w/o giving away plot details, but they really are completely different. Sure, there was 1 pretty stupid thing at the beginning, but I didn't feel much else was because people had their own motives. I watch tons of these (and knew there was a twist coming, just not exactly what). I typically don't like home invasion type movies, but I did really enjoy this one.
It's Tom Cruise being Tom Cruise which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you like that. I usually do and this is no different. He did what he always does, nothing special. One problem I had with the movie, SPOILER
what is with the whole killing to gain contracting company thing? That seemed like a lot of trouble to go through to get a contracting company. It just seemed too far out there for me to murder all those people for that.

i know the purge and this are nothing really alike, i was just comparing the stupidity of the people in this to the stupidity of the people in that movie. but this was just as bad as the purge imo.
and being better than the purge isnt saying much. this movie could have been called anything too. "you're next" makes no sense.
Haven't seen it, but I don't remember DiCaprio having a substandard performance. Could this be better than his performance in The Departed? Or this movie better? That movie so worked for me!
Person of Interest - Season 1, 2 and 3 - 7.5/10 - I have one big problem with this show... I have the hardest time understanding the two main leads! They talk so low that you really have to pay attention. Fortunately, I almost always watch movies with subtitles on, so I didn't have an issue. But yeesh... I realize that they're trying to make Mr. Reese be this stoic character, but that doesn't mean you have to act like a stick. :|
Also, I couldn't help but compare this show to Human Target. Human Target may not have a machine, but it has fun characters with good actors. Unfortunately, I can't remember a single series that Chi McBride has been in that hasn't been cancelled, so the show was pretty much doomed. To be fair, it was doomed when they gave the female characters a larger role in season 2, because they weren't very interesting.
I thought that was an interesting contrast, because Person of Interest seems to do a decent job with its female characters. I wasn't really into the Root character for a while, but Amy Acker is rather easy on the eyes, so I give it a little leeway. I wasn't sure what I would think about Shaw getting more screentime as she is like a straight-laced version of Reese; however, she's gotten a lot better throughout season 3.
The movie is almost worth watching for Alexandra Daddario alone. Yeah, I thought the first one was far more watchable, but the sequel has an awful script. For example,
when aforementioned hot chick is dying at the end, there's absolutely no tension. THEY HAVE A CLOAK THAT BRINGS PEOPLE BACK TO LIFE FROM THE DEAD. That latter, underlined part is important, because they try to ramp up tension because it supposedly doesn't work on her... 'cause she isn't dead yet. Duh!
I mean... it's based on a set of books written for young teens, so I don't expect much out of it.
The movie embellished a lot of things from the true events. Even Macus Luttrell embellished several things in his book which differ from the facts. Namely the number of enemy they faced.

Well to be fair i doubt any of them truly knew how many enemy they did face. I highly doubt they ever had time to stop and count. Either way 4 vs even 20 is still a rough fight
What I don't understand about the movie is that I always thought that SEALs go in with a diversity of guns. One guy at least has a M-60 to lay down surprising firepower. The whole idea being that you want to act like a larger force than you are. That's what I saw on Discovery or the Military Channel. Some of the BUD/S training video they ran in the beginning of the movie I seen on the Military Channel. Which leads me to believe that BUD/S training videos are hard to come by.
Frozen Ground with Nicholas Cage and John Cusack - 5/10
Serial killer story based on a real story, but Cusack is about as frightening as a screaming baby on a plane, and the flick is slow, disjointed, and disappointing.
Trance with James McAvoy 6/10
About an art heist, that goes slightly wrong with the 'inside man'. When the thieves get away, they find no painting in the case, and the inside man has amnesia from being hit on the head. Enter Rosario Dawson as a hypnotist. First third was great; last two thirds mediocre to just plain stupid.
Otter 501 PBS Special 8/10
Follows the work of rehabilitating otters which I found quite interesting. Watch as Otter #501 is found as a pup on a beach, til it is trained by a surrogate mother otter and is released back into the wild.

I'm a week behind but I really enjoyed the first episode of True Detective. Mcconaughey has been on a tear lately, but he was on an even higher level. Good stuff
prisoners. watched it last night and i'd give it a 9/10. really good movie and it didn't seem nearly as long as it is (2.5 hours). i also really liked how it ended.
