Gangster Squad - 8/10
Don't know if it's fictional or not, but it's about a group of cops going vigilante on some east coast mob boss. Good action. Not bad at all. Emma Stone is so pretty in this movie.
I thought this film didn't do anything new and everything it did do had been done better before. "The Untouchables" for example, gives it a sound thrashing IMO in every way.
And GS is utterly fiction, as in, Mickey Cohen had very little to do with anything that film suggested he had. I'm not saying that "The Untouchables" isn't a work of fiction, but I know it had at least one factual element
Dredd (2012)
It was an OK action flick, but I thought it was pretty dull. One scene made me wonder what was going to happen next, the rest of the time Dredd just looks bullet proof. 6/10?
Tron: Legacy (2010)
Incredibly dull, and what plot/setting there is doesn't make much sense. The original was pretty simple and reasonably entertaining - the 'computer world' was a representation (with a fair bit of poetic licence) of what was going on in the computer system at Encom in the real world. I don't know what the 'computer world' was meant to represent in this film, but it really didn't make any sense at all. Plot elements are inserted purely to drive the plot and audience like a herd through a maze without any real rhyme or reason. I can imagine an average early/mid teen being entertained by this film and that's it. No surprises to be found in this film whatsoever. 4 or 5 out of 10.
Django Unchained (2012)
Compared to the previous three I've mentioned, this film is great. However, compared to the rest of Tarantino's work, it doesn't measure up IMO. It was entertaining certainly. I rate QT quite highly, some of my favourite films are by him, so I'll give this film a rating relative to his other films: 7/10
I've just watched Kill Bill 1 & 2 again, which IMO stands head and shoulders above DU.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
I noticed this when its trailer did the rounds on the front page of IMDB and it caught my attention. I enjoyed the fact that it wasn't some romantic movie where the entire plot revolves around the fact that the management board decided to get x and y actors together to get all the women to watch a film. The two main characters had (unusual for Hollywood) flaws, they were more believable. It demonstrated that normal people can be arseholes sometimes without that being their defining character trait. Sometimes that's just the way people are. Someone mentioned the parlay, I thought that was a bit unnecessary too and who the hell is stupid enough to do something like that? I'd probably give this film a 7.
