blade runner 2 is 2hr 45min long?!

ugg.. looks like im not watching it tonite
I'm just pissed that it's only available for buying on Google Play Movies (I'm guessing cause it's new although that's a stupid reason IMO). Other new movies like Dunkirk are available to rent... I guess I just gotta keep checking every day.

Kinda off-topic, but does anyone know anything about The Man in the High Castle season 3? I seem to remember the previous seasons coming out in fall/winter time. Must watch moar Julia!

"Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle": easily 10/10. It's extremely funny, Karen Gillan has never looked better or performed better, Johnson and Hart are hysterical, and Jack Black deserves a freakin' Oscar. "Jumanji" is one of my all-time favorite movies but this one is hands-down better; it works both as a comedy and as an over-the-top action movie. Highly recommended.
ok, saw it just because of your post.

i would rate Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle 8/10

i agree Karen Gillan never looked better.
so much hotter than when she was Dr Who's companion.

negatives:
stereotypical 4 strangers come together and become friends in the end.
stereotypical you know that even tho they are down to their last life, they're not going to die.
stupid way for The Rock to lose a life and his reaction (or lack there of) to the dumb way he lost that life.

altho i do like the creative way Karen Gillan got down to her last life

Bright - Netflix

2/10 - The writing was atrocious, the acting was not much better. Will Smith was typecast with dialogue straight out of BadBoys with Martin Lawrence.

It dragged, endless scenes of unnecessary cringe-worthy dialogue, enormous plot holes. The world the filmmakers built was very cool, maybe they can resurrect this with something memorable.

I would think that someone that uses Dr. Detroit as their handle and avatar would not have such demanding standards of their movies.

Yeah, feel about the same. The last few seasons were very hit and miss with the episodes. Always felt they need a dash more Kruger.

The show has kind of outlived its original premise and now they are experimenting with doing new things with the show. Just playing with the characters in different ways.

But I agree also, in the last two seasons there has been about one good moment out of every 3 episodes. The thing is those moments are so good that it makes you forgive the fact that there was not anything even interesting in the last two episodes.

And yes, every scene with Kruger is solid gold. They need to look at what makes that work and do more of it.

Thank god it wasn't a cookie cutter concept. To bad everything else about it sucked. I got through the whole thing so it has some merit. The thing is, it's worth watching but it's just not that good.

Florence Foster Jenkins - 8/10

I'm a sucker for autobiographical historical pieces and this one was fantastic. Acting was superb by Meryl & Hugh, sets and costumes were on point. Story was interesting and factual.

The Godfather is on Netflix now, and I forgot to review it when I saw the move last summer on Bluray.

10/ fucking 10

Its just as good as everyone says. Unlike Gone With The Wind, which is probably the most overrated piece of crap since Ronald Reagan.

Dunkirk - 6/10 - I have to admit I found the movie very slow. I wasn't expecting Saving Private Ryan action but even without that it was just such a slow paced movie and felt like nothing was moving most of the time. The back and forth in time was also confusing when it came to the pilots. Don't regret watching it, but will never watch it again- I'd put it in the same category as The Thin Red Line...
Gifted - 7.5/10 - This was a cute movie, we watched it because it was free and the little girl nails her role perfectly. There was also good chemistry between the rest of the cast which helped greatly.
War for Planet of the Apes - 7.5/10 - The battle scene at the end made little sense in terms of strategy, presumably because the technology is no longer there to plan anything other than zerging? But I did enjoy the movie, hopefully they'll make a second trilogy based on the apes.
The Theory of Everything - 8/10 - No wonder the guy won best actor, he doesn't just play Stephen Hawkins, he becomes him. I found it amusing how I couldn't recognize Felicity Jones without googling her, she looks so different than in Star Wars Rogue One (which is also the only Star Wars movie I rank a 10/10).

I'm looking forward to the next few weeks where I hope to watch Blade Runner 2049, Dark Tower, Bright and Last Jedi.

On the TV side, I started watching Dark on Netflix and it is by far the worst dub job I have ever seen. It reminds me of dubbing in the 80s where the voices don't match the mouth movements adding to it that the voices, both in tone and emotion, just don't fit the characters. After 2 episodes the story is captivating me enough to deserve an 8/10 but the dub is an enthusiastic well deserved 0-Seriously Netflix, wtf have you done?-/10.

Dunkirk - 8/10 - I can definitely see why people didn't like this movie, expecting a totally different kind of war movie like a typical Saving Private Ryan type or something, but I enjoyed this movie quite a bit and enjoyed the style of it. I would like to watch it again since I was tired and borderline dozing off at parts and I feel like I missed some stuff in it. But it wasn't because it was boring, it was because I had been drinking a bit before and was just tired/exhausted.

It's still out in the theater? damn.

It was awesome, though. doesn't feel like 3 hours. I was thoroughly impressed that it managed to go above my expectations for the latest modern sequel that would inevitably ruin a classic.

The Urban Fantasy genre dates back to the late 1980s and the Shadowrun RPG was 1989, but it is an original setting for Hollywood. I'd give it 8/10 for world building.

I'd give the execution a 5/10, as a cookie-cutter buddy cop movie / Alien Nation ripoff with some badass Elves.

Some of the best shows I've seen last year:

Godless - 8.5/10
Old school western about an outlaw being hunted by the gang who raised him. Best cinematography I've seen in a long time. Best use of flashbacks I've ever seen. This show is pretty much perfect up until the last episode where it lost it for me.

Gomorrah 9.5/10 for first 2 seasons, 7/10 for 3rd so far but IMO should have ended it after 2nd season.
Show about the power struggle of crime factions in Napoli. If you like mafia shows this one is a must watch. Up there with The Sopranos but much grittier. Some of the best character development I've ever seen. Watch ti'll the end (2nd season). Some of you will not like it for reasons I don't want to spoil.

Future Man - 8/10
This show is a breath of fresh air. Over the top comedy/parody (kinda like The Orville - 7/10, if you like that one, high chance you'll like this) about trime travel shows. Practically every scene is a tribute/reference/parody to something. I didn't really like the first 2-3 episodes, some scenes IMO took it too far but after that it got better and better. Some great characters (Wolf). There was another episode in the 80s I thought it was shit. The ending/last episode though was [retracted] FANTASTIC. They should end it here.

The Punisher - 8/10
I found the first 2-3 episodes pretty boring but it gets better. Some weird choices by some characters. I thought the ending was dragging, could had been an easy 9/10

Mindhunter - 7.5/10
Nothing to say here that hasn't been over discussed.

Atypical - 7/10
Comedy? about an 18 kid with autism and his quest for a girlfriend/trying to find out what love is. Watch this if you're bad with girls, it's pretty much an in-your-face tutorial at what to do and how women are/what they want.

Umbre - 8/10 (9/10 if you're romanian/fluent in romanian)
Crime show about a mob debt collector that balances his work with family life. Very realistic. Has 2-3 of the best scenes I've ever seen in a TV show. The protagonist is kinda dumb but has street smarts and good intuition.

Dunkirk was best experienced on 70MM IMAX as Nolan filmed it to be an immersive experience - I was fortunate to see this film in all its glory on 70MM IMAX and the visuals are stunning. At home viewing, not so much.

The Thin Red Line is fantastic, takes multiple watchings to really appreciate the nuances of Terrence Malick's skill. Looking back, it was clearly snubbed from the Best Picture Oscar.

apparently the xfiles is back, i figured it was worth having on while i browse random stuff

its a mythology ep where a bunch of different parties are after scullys baby. i think i caught the gist of it lol. the cigarette smoking man is back and claims to be the father (with some alien dna of course) of the baby. overall meh.

if i happen to be near a tv when they're on i'll tune in, the only one i'm interested in is the one written by darin morgan (flukeman/humbug/clyde bruckman/etc.), supposed to be the 4th ep.

funny, didn't know this film existed. The cast is out of this world: nick nolte, adrian brody, shawn penn, john cusack, woody harrelson, jared leto, john travolta, george clooney, i wonder how much this must have cost them.

Brawl in Cell Block 99 - 7.5/10

At 132 minutes its a long movie but it never dragged. Some great plot twists and OK character development. It's raw and gritty. Overall this film is not for the squeamish, its extremely violent/bloody and lives up to it not being rated.

Vince Vaughn gives an excellent performance and you definitely understand his motivations throughout the film.

Pretty sure great actors were lined up begging to be in a new Terrence Malick film regardless of the pay. Guy is a legend and didn't direct for close to twenty years, so the Thin Red Line was a big deal in Hollywood.

Also, majority of the "big names" got very little screen time with the exception of Nick Nolte. Bill Pullman, Mickey Rourke, and Billy Bob Thornton worked on the film as well but they ended up on the cutting room floor.

ok, this is reaaly weird. Terrence Malick, this guy, basically had ONE successful film, his first, Badlands. It must have been great because his second one was received with mixed reviews, and then he didn't do anything for 20 years; and then everyone who is anyone in Hollywood lines up to work for him at a fraction of their cachet.
Thin Red Line had a budget of $53m so they must have been way lower then any other standard production.

'guess i'll be watching Badlands tonight.

The Girl with All The Gifts - 6.5/10

British zombie movie with some interesting ideas on the the evolution of the zombie virus. Pacing was a bit slow. Writing was witty. Visuals were quite good, I really enjoyed the London scenes.

Glenn Close was also co-starring.

We made one minute in with the dubs. It is bad. Watch it in German with subs.
