Hunt For the Wilderpeople - 9/10
The kid is hilarious and has a huge personality. Breakthrough performance here, also very well directed. Luckily got to see this in the theater. I'd check it out if it's playing in yours.
Stranger Things - 8.5/10
Clearly pays homage to 80's movies like E.T. and Poltergeist. Loved it despite a major plot hole.
Nancy and the Jonathan don't tell Jonathon's mom and the police chief about the portal in the woods so they are forced to go into the DOE building to make a deal with the gov.

No.
The portal was clearly shown closing, just like the ones that kept appearing inside Jonathan's place. The biggest plot hole seems to be in what attracts it: blood was not always a factor.

Interesting because all of my friends didn't see it and if this actually happened then nobody noticed. It's also a plot hole because the other times
we see portals from the monster they open/close immediately. Like in the wall. Why would one be open that long in the middle of the woods? Makes no fucking sense.

It was dark but the camera dwells on it and fills the entire screen with it and forces you to watch it close. You're right that it doesn't make sense though.

Let's Be Evil - 1/10 - Absolutely horrible movie with no pay off. I'm not even sure how the title ties into the movie, unless it was some sort of inside joke. There is almost no story, and really really stupid characters, and then you think, well maybe the ending will tell us something that ties all of this together...nope.

double bill:

Money Monster - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2241351/reference

and

The Nice Guys - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3799694/reference

both are watchable, neither is great. Money Monster is the latest Clooney effort, where he plays the host of a finances-based Tv show being held hostage by a guy who lost all his money in a "glitch". As the story unfolds, Clooney becomes less the corporate sock puppet and more the investigative journalist who wants justice.
Nice Guys is Reynolds and Crowe pretending to be swag guys in the 70s, kinda like Boogie Nights.

So .. Clooney is at the end. Half of the film he's supposedly in fear for his life, but apparently he skipped class that day at acting school; tries to redeem himself with the epic justice soliloquy at the end, but you can see it in his face that he just can't be bothered anymore.
Julia Roberts plays a baffling supporting part that anyone else could have played.

As for Nice Guys, Crowe looks weird with a big belly, but he's still pretty convincing in the part. Reynolds plays it a bit more comedic and the two don't really work well together. And, while there's plenty of tits, face-punching, and sex jokes, i couldn't help thinking i was watching a PG-13 version of what this script should have been. You can see that a lot of money has been put into the production, but i couldn't shake the impression that the director was waiting to pounce on any scene that could actually give the film a "noir" feeling, immediately breaking in with a fart joke.

So, at the end the one which i enjoyed the most was Money Monster; it doesn't succeed to elevate itself above any previously seen finance film, including the now geriatric Wall Street, but at least it tries. Nice Guys does the opposite, it's got a pretty solid script and some decent characters, but it's scared of being a film for grownups.

6.5/10 each. depending on what you look for in a film, you'll like one better than the other. For ichinisan, i recommend The Nice Guys - really strong visual art. For perknose, money monster. Anyway i know you guys will wind up watching both of them.

20 years later, it's probably even more interesting and entertaining than when we first watched it. Knocking on the door of 40 and being right in the age of the characters it just hits home a lot more and is still entirely relevant. It's funny how going back and watching something two decades later makes a show seem entirely different.

I feel you on that. A big example for me is Jurassic Park 1. Saw it as a kid in the theater and I could totally relate to the kids who were my age at the time. Rewatched it recently and I was blown away that the conversations the adults were having about having kids is exactly the ones my wife and I are having today. Added an extra layer to a favorite movie that I could never relate to before.

Other stuff I have watched recently:

Zootopia 6/10 - was cute but not classic. Dated the crap out of itself with iPhones and app references. This will be a dinosaur in ten years and not a classic like Toy Story or Nemo. My wife hated it's PC jokes. Not anything close to art like Wreck It Ralph or Wall E.

All of "The Arrow" series to date 9/10 - I am overrating the hell out of this because I thought it was a blast. Green Arrow has always been my favorite comic book hero (he is basically a more believable Batman to me), and I really like how they established the "Arrowverse" and how they handled the villains. Bonus points are given because (apparently) the plot had a lot of drama in a Gossip Girl style so both my sister and wife ate it up like catnip and so they were just as into as me. This world is so much better than the DC movie one its not even funny. Watching the Flash next.

Turbo Kid 8/10 - fun movie, like a mix of 1989's The Wizard and Waterworld in feel

Left Behind 0/10 - older movie, watched it because wife is huge Cage fan and I wanted to see how they made a religious book into a mostly secular movie. The answer is it's the second worst movie I have ever seen, which means it's worse than Battlefield Earth.

Allegant 5/10 - these movies really fell off, no wonder the last one will go straight to tv

The divergent series is so bad. The teen book to movie stuff has to end.

Wait until you catch some reruns of Men of a Certain Age in another 10 years or so. (Great show. Very sorry when it was cancelled.)

im slowly watching Parks And Recreation - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1266020/reference

mostly due to the popularity of the Ron Swanson memes; when does this show get good? i'm at S02E04 and i'm not really laughing.
Keep going. Season 1 sucked, but it really picked up midway through season 2. It's one of my favorite comedies, and I'm really picky. When Rob Lowe joins the cast at the end of season 2 it just keeps getting better.

Wow, it is going to take me a bit to get used to these new forums (I like em though)

Ghostbusters (2016) - 6/10

I went in with me GF expecting a shit show but.... I actually kind of liked it. The graphics were fantastic, the acting was fine, had quite a bit of "meta" but I liked it ( Ernie Hudson at the end was AWESOME). Melissa Mccarthy surprisingly did not annoy me. I'm a huge original Ghostbusters fan and I felt this was OK

This is a great movie with Ricky Gervais. The story starts when 2 journalists are supposed to go to Ecuador to cover a revolt but they're not able and fake their coverage from the home of some friends.

It's a really original concept and it's well executed with each phase of the story getting more and more ridiculous but somehow, still believable. The supporting cast is great and their over the top acting is just the right amount to mesh with the story. Good chemistry between Gervais and Eric Bana (lead reporter).

Saw Jason Bourne with my brother tonight. I'd give it a 7/10. Maybe 7.5. I was really surprised at how many people were in the theater; there were only a couple seats here and there open. Considering the time it's been out and the relatively poor reviews it got, I expected it to be mostly empty there. I also don't get people that liked the first three Bourne movies but not this one. Wtf?! It was pretty much like the previous three movies, to include crazy car chase and brutal ass fight(s). Oh and the SHAKY CAM that so many whine about. But it did seem a bit to kind of lack something else the other ones had. Suspense... or heart... or something. Not sure. But I enjoyed it.

Florence Foster Jenkins

Meryl Streep did her own singing.
Simon Helberg (The Big Bang Theory) did his own piano playing.

Check out the samples of actual real life Florence Foster Jenkins recordings on iTunes and Amazon music.
Jenkins no doubt influenced Yoko Ono.
And if youtube had been available back in Florence Foster Jenkins day, she would have had 1 trillion hits.

Jason Bourne - 7/10. Damon was in good shape to do this movie again even it was over 10 years ago that he did the first one. If you see the first few movies with Damon in them, this one was very much the same. I like the new girl, cute and smart. Did not like the chase scene at the end. WTH was the purpose?

Suicide Squad IMAX - 8/10
. Could have been a blockbuster if they focused more into Harley and Joker instead of Deadshot (too much of him IMO). Would love to see the same two actors as Harley and Joker to fight Batman/good guys in the next movie.

Sausage - 7.5/10. My goodness, have not hear that much cursing, profanities, and such in a toon since Team America. LOL @ the group make out/suggestions at the end.

Batman: The Killing Joke - 6/10

London Has Fallen - 5/10

Suicide Squad (IMAX) - 3/10.
I did not like gangsta Joker. The plot was a boring mess.

Jason Bourne - 6.5/10

The Beastmaster 7/10
The 80s Lord of the Rings not in quality but how many times it was on Tv. Been 15-20 years since I've watched this classic. Still pretty good. Didn't know it before but it was based on a sci-fi book that they completely changed into a fantasy barbarian movie.

The Kindred 2/10
For some reason I have had it in my mind for years that I loved this crappy b-movie when I was 12 and I finally decided to see why. I still don't know.

Cell 3/10
Crappy Steven King movie from a mediocre Steven King book staring Jon Cusack and Samuel L Jackson. Basically cell phones turn people into literal zombies. I can barely remember the book but I think it at least made some kind of sense compared to the movie.

i watched The Man Who Knew Infinity because reasons. - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0787524/reference

hated nearly every instant of it.

this film is the story of Srinivasa Ramanujan, possibly the greatest mind in the field of abstract mathematics. and yet the film is, mostly, about him with the wife, him crying, him eating, him feeling cold, and very little about the math that he did. Sure, it's there as a framing device, but i couldn't help thinking that Good Will Hunting has far more of that "love of math" spirit, crammed into a few minutes, than this entire film. There is ONE single use of math terminology in the film, and even then it's explained like the viewer is a retard. Who exactly did they imagine was going to watch this film?
Also a quick wikipedia read reveals that some facts are twisted to appear different from reality, which really should not exist in what is essentially a biopic.

Jeremy Irons (billed top) was really good, but they should have made the story about the maths, not about Ramanujan's "getting used to Britain". As it is now, the story is far too weak and sentimental.

disappointing. 6/10
