dirty grandpa - first 80% - 10/10, last 20%, 4/10. the first 80% or so of this movie is hilarious. loved every moment of it. the chemistry and dialog between the two was hilarious. but then, as usual with 99.99% of comedies now a days, they have to try and get all serious instead of just being funny the entire film. got pretty lame towards the end because of this, although it does have funny moments through all of it so it's not completely boring.

that sounds like a film worth watching; i mean, even the great Edge Of Tomorrow has a crap ending, but it's still worth it.

The video actually answers cleverly many questions that were buzzing around the internet when the film first came out, and which have helped generate the bad reputation of the film, in turn being the reason why i didn't watch the film myself.
Honestly, i would have figured most out by myself because, you know, i'm not a retard, but there's still a few things in the film which are near unforgivable.
massive spoilers from now on, for those who have not seen the film and also have no internet access.
The plot of Prometheus is quite different from the one the trailer implies;
A scientific expedition is sabotaged by a meddling android under commands from the owner of the evilest corporation ever put on paper.
Visually, the film is glorious, although it almost understates the visuals - i respectfully believe that if they had made the visual aspect more of a centerpiece, the film would have had more success.
Some of the events in the script are really retarded; a control panel made of stone? A Xenobiologist hugging a obviously enraged animal?
Or, for example, the android David offering the poisoned drink to Holloway; although the scene is plausibly believable from the character's point of view, it's also completely obvious to the spectators. Did the great Ridley Scott actually forget how to shoot a film?
Charlize Theron's character is stupid beyond belief. Who thought that "woman who stands still a lot" was going to be interesting deserves to lose their job. Weyland's "uncanny" makeup is a weird choice, i don't know what they were shooting for but i really did not enjoy seeing a blatantly young person poorly disguised as an old man, with tons of closeups to make the effect even less believable.
The film is also quite slow .. rather than "poorly paced", i would say it's the opposite, too evenly paced, without any moments of particular excitement or action, as opposed to, say, the android-going-berserk scene in Alien.
About 3/4 through it finally picks up the pace, when the Weyland-led remains of the crew head in to meet the last Engineer. At this point, they have found out the entirety of the plot, what the goo is, their creation, the demise of the engineers, and Weyland's reason for setting up the expedition in the first place. The ending is rather simple and the entire plot might be too simplistic for the audience to feel satisfied.
In the end, you have to share the same mentality of the last few survivors to enjoy this film; that going forward to simply meet your creators is more important that what common sense tells you... expecting, perhaps, to find God.
If, on the other hand you share the opinion of Dr Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) that creating life isn't such a shocking revelation, then you'll find the entire film rather insipid - it is, after all, a creation myth film.
Scott clearly states his religious inspiration for the film, if not directly *in* the film, and, exactly like religion, it's a load of bullshit.
Alien, for example, relied on a simpler emotion - fear. Prometheus attempts to rely on the emotion of revelation, but for many this will be more mundane than divine.
Having watched the film on a small screen, i missed out on much of the audio-visual aspect, but maybe this allowed me to focus more on the story itself. I didn't find this film too horrible, if anything i would say, it has many good things about it, but it lacks punch, something that generates really strong emotions; it's an effortless journey, but the destination isn't particularly great.
As for the film's terrible reputation, i would say it more due to it being judged on the success of other films, rather than on its own strengths and weaknesses, otherwise it could easily be on par with films like Moon, if not better.
Sadly, it did the same for me, as watching it i could not help thinking how much better the characters in Alien were, and how much better they were used.
It's an ok film; kinda bland. i'm gonna have to say...

Saw Rosemary's Baby for the first time a couple days ago. It's easy to see why it's considered a classic, and it mostly still holds up today. Really 90% of the running time is building up tension and mystery, which is all great. The ending however, does seem a bit dated,
I really enjoyed it though, regardless of the dated bits. It's a great example of Hollywood shifting into the 70's new wave, but still retaining some of the feel of a 60's film.
Also watched Antichrist, which is another slow burn horror film. It is similar to Rosemary's Baby, in that most of the movie is building tension. However Antichrist does so in much more shocking, and often abstract ways. I don't really want to give much away, but it's totally worth seeing, and it's streaming on Netflix right now. Keep in mind, this isn't your typical horror film at all, it's not about jump scares, or spooky ghosts. It builds mood, may make you cringe, and ultimately has some pretty fucked up things to say if your paying attention. Of course it's Lars von Trier, so what do you expect?
with the actual coven being shown. The upside down cross above the bassinet and the awkward "hail Satan"s were especially cheesy; though I think some of it was supposed to be oddball, it still didn't work for me.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. -- 9/10
Really enjoyed this one. I always like it when I watch a movie with no idea who any of the actors/actresses are and end up totally surprised by it. On HBO Now, not sure if it's available elsewhere for streaming.

Documentary on Netflix. Also ok. Different approach / idea about the cause of the obesity epidemic. Like many other documentaries, it's anti-sugar. However, unlike many other documentaries, the approach isn't to cut all of it out cold-turkey, but rather introduce the things your body needs and sugary foods will just get crowded out. Interesting.
Valley Uprising -- 8/10
Saw a recommendation for this here (I think), was quite entertaining. Rock climbers are nuts. That is all. On Netflix.
30 Rock -- 7/10
Finished this series, was ready for it to be done a while ago. Tina Fey is hilarious. Alec Baldwin is hilarious. The other writers and Kenneth are hilarious. But I'm relatively certain it would be a 10/10 without Tracy Morgan or Jane Krakowski. They were both super annoying, which, I understand is the point ... but they were annoying to the detriment of the show. UGH.
Really enjoyed this one. I always like it when I watch a movie with no idea who any of the actors/actresses are and end up totally surprised by it. On HBO Now, not sure if it's available elsewhere for streaming.

Avengers: Age of Ultron - 6/10
Not as good as the first but entertaining. There is quite a bit of ham-fisted plot thrown in but I'll give it a pass since it would be awfully tough to go in depth with so many main characters in the mix. Why did they focus on Black Widow and Hawkeye so much? It's nice having the "champions of the plebs" pitching in but they should be ancillary characters, they are not even in the same league as the other 4. I wanted to see more Hulk and Thor...... The end fight scene was underwhelming, I never felt like any of the heroes were in any sort of danger because the robots just seemed like a joke.

The Nice Guys - 6/10
Two more actors trying to do comedy. They don't do a really bad job of it but their presentation was a little rough. Definitely need to work on their timing. There's some slapstick so that biases me against them from the beginning especially considering that most of it isn't good or inspired slapstick but the standard fare you would expect from say Chevy Chase.
But this is also an action movie although for the first hour you don't see a lot of action. Things pick up big time in the second hour but you don't really care what happens because you're still sort of numb and somnolent from the first one.
Matt Bomer (of White Collar fame) and Gosling's daughter (Angourie Rice) are the real stars of the movie. Bomer plays a convincing and slightly creepy bad guy and Rice is just perfect in her role.
The movie probably deserves a 7 of 10 but I'm giving it a 6 because I spent way too much time checking my watch. Now, that could have just been me and nothing to do with the movie, but I have to blame someone so . . .

Actress Victoria Vetri was indeed the actress Victoria Vetri in the laundry room scene.
Ruth Gordon was, as always, incredible.
Maurice Evans must have liked that film. He later played a warlock on the TV series bewitched.
Patsy Kelly, a character actress, always delivered in all her films.
And Hope Summers. If Opie Taylor only knew his Mayberry neighbor was an actual WITCH!

Fun movie but I found it overrated. Fantastic action scenes, great CGI and decent story. It did come off as rather childish to me. Granted some of the jokes were funny but I got tired of the constant Van Wilder-esque wisecracks and meta analysis. Probably better suited for a younger audience or fans of the comic book.

i'm torn here. from a cinematography point of view, it's absolute garbage. the actors, of which there's quite a few, each have a different take on the film; Gerald 300 Butler takes it very seriously, and honestly he's not bad. His antagonist instead looks and acts like he's Rocky out of the Horror Show, acts like this is a tragedy, and couldn't be more fake. Most of the supporting cast thinks they are in a music video, the sidekick thinks he's in an episode of the Kardashians. The director should be shot.
The film is overrun with CGI. I have not absorbed such a massive amount of CGI in my entire life as i have yesterday. I mean, some, actually, most of it is really good. But damn it, there is just so much of it, a human brain cannot cope. If this was radiation, and my life was equivalent to eating a banana, Gods Of Egypt is like ground zero at Hiroshima. It's such a massive, mindfuck overload of CGI, despite the quality, you'll soon feel it's too much. The director should be shot, really.
The story isn't too bad, it's kinda simple on the script side; the costumes are fantastic, the sets are gorgeous, but there are so many things in the film that will simply make you go wtf. And my god, the film is relentless; action, cut, new scene, new set, cut. New characters, new scene, new set, cut. action, cut. There's like, idk, a hundred scenes in this film?!? Has anyone shot this director guy yet? No? Come on guys, he ain't gonna shoot himself.
I suppose that, if you are in a good mood, and if you like stuff like Transformers, you might actually enjoy this film quite a bit, just be prepared to forgive the many derps this film has. If on the other had you are looking for a somewhat serious film, then avoid it like the plague.

The oddest thing about this film IMO was the title. Relatively speaking it should be named "15 minutes of Ultron"; an age is somewhat longer.

I watched this the other day as well, and had a very similar reaction to you. This was the most mindless action film I've ever watched. If you spend even a second thinking about the plot, the action, the acting, or anything else, it falls apart. But if you turn off your mind and just watch the spectacle of it, it is kind of cool in the over the top 'cowabunga dude!' sort of way. I really think the audience it was aimed at was 13 years old, because I know my 13 year old self would have thought this was the coolest thing. I think the comparison to Transformers is close, but I think it is more in the realm of TMNT levels of crazy, with a call out to Rick Riordan style of storytelling.

Same here. Great visuals for the most part although there was some cheap-ass green screen chicanery here and there. Mostly quality cgi though I'd say (not being anything close to an expert). Plug your ears when they start explaining shit like why Zeus isn't on earth. You'll just get annoyed. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Binge watched Humans, I like it and give it a 8.7/10.
I imagine the show has been mentioned, it is pretty much a mix of Ex Machina, Blade Runner, Orphan Black, AI, and the typical robotics things, but it is very well done IMHO.

I have a problem with a few actors that typically phone in their roll, and get away wth it.
Certainly, Clooney is one. Tom Hanks another. You'll never see Hanks or Clooney dangling out a window or dodging bullets.
Just slap on wardrobe, set up the queue cards, and they call that acting?

Clooney has that charisma, it's a pleasure to just watch him being onscreen. Imho Denzel Washington has it too. Even in Hail Caesar he has a short monologue at the end that's delivered pretty well, but for the rest of the film he basically does nothing. Maybe that's how it was written, but then that's just poor use of an expensive resource.
