Bruises Yen
TOKYO - The yen dipped against the dollar Monday after President Bush said he had discussed currency devaluation with Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.

White House officials quickly said Bush had misspoken, and that he had meant to say the two leaders had talked about deflation.

Seeking to show support for Koizumi's economic policies, Bush said at a news conference that he and the prime minister had discussed "nonperforming loans, the devaluation issue and regulatory reform." (AP)

What? Bush misspoke AGAIN? He seems to do that almost everytime he opens his mouth without his written speach infront of him to read.

Now that he is mostly to blame for the US recession, putting us in a budget deficit again, and the huge loses in the stock market and jobs, it is only fair that he try and screw up other countries economies as well.

How, exactly, did bush cause the recession? Didn't the stock market dip start a year and a half ago?

Furthermore, didn't all you Keynesians and FDR-ites engineer tax cuts and defecit spending during an economic downturn?

So in summation:

A president can't cause a recession unless it's with a tax hike or with a war. Budget defecit: you bet he's to blame, but so is the economic downturn.

Stock market losses:

DJIA 2 year

What strikes you as the date at which the stock market takes a tumble? And how is Bush responsible for this?

Don't get me wrong; I don't particularly like the guy but you can't blame him for all the economic bad news.

Another idiot opens his mouth and confirms his stupidity.

<< Bad for them, good for us. 😀 >>

Well, not really. I guess that in the sense that as long as their economy tanks, the Yen will continue to plummet, which means we'll be able to buy stuff cheaper from them, then yes, that's good for some of us.

At the same time, I think that if Japan's economy turned around, it would do wonders for the American economy. 🙂

He didn't. That's just the current number one on the liberal lie hit parade.

Some of us. Weak yen makes Japanese goods cheaper. Good for US consumers, not so good for US producers who make products that compete with Japanese, like cars.

<< Bad for them, good for us. >>

yea? how so? if their economy goes bad, eventually other Countries involved with their economy will go bad as well.

<< Bad for them, good for us. >>

~SIGH... it's always sad to see some idiots say stuff like this... you actually think it's good for U.S. to see Japan going down like this? You will be very regret to see that happen if it really does. idiots.

Yes and whenever something goes right, you praise the figurehead. Sounds like it balances out.

How is it good for us if their economy does bad? I'm not seeing that as working out.

hey i actually live in japan. not that i know a ton about economic theory, but i know enough.

basically japans been in a recession for the past ten years or so. koizumi wants to devalue the yen in hopes that it will stimulate the economy (by making domestic goods cheaper in comparison to imported goods, and exported goods cheaper compared to various countries domestic goods; thats my assumption anyway). so its good for consumers, and not great for US companies. however, in a capitalistic free market economy, everyone should win right?(or not)

bush really cant do anything to anyones economy. the yen has been bouncing all over the place since august. its been between 117 and 135. it sucks for me when i send money home to pay student loans, but all you stateside people may end up coming out on top.

my spare change, anyway

Ah-HAHAHAHA!!! 😀
So is this worse than barfing on a diplomat? Man, Japan's economy already sucks... making it suck more... will there's not too much difference in the the degree of suck for us...

Yep, I guess he was trying to ruin Japan's economy by saying one word incorrectly.

Look for bread lines tomorrow.

And, if the yen dips against the dollar, it means Americans can get more yen per dollar, but Japanese get fewer dollars for their yen.

Bush is as responsible for the recession as Clinton was for the 'boom' (which was nothing more than a big speculative pipedream).

You know what's sad? What you did to your dog last night.
