Anyway, I just got one for an intimate friend. She gotta be happy about this present! :D

intimate?...her present will be :Q:p

iwearnosox-I too received a message on my (8200)machine saying there is a delay and wont ship until the 19th..although my order status was at "testing" yesterday morning, and "boxing" last night... so I guess it will just sit there for a week?!?!

What sort of hard drives in these puppies? Affects whether I spring the extra $20 for 40GB. If it's a QUIET Seagate drive, I'll upgrade, otherwise I'll get the cheapest and replace...

Thanks!

Thanks!
I've ordered two so far and both are whisper quiet. The first one was the Seagate Barracuda 40GB & the Hitachi LG CDRW and the second was the Maxtor 6L040J2 & NEC CDRW NR-9100A

And another thing - does this come with USB 2.0?
The Dimension 4500 comes with 6 USB 2.0 ports (4-rear, 2-front).

My question??? I plan on ordering more today, but I can't the Dell Small Bus link via ebates.com to work (or Dell Home & Dell Home S&P). Is anyone else having this same problem?
TIA :)

Please ... you should know that it's not the numbers that make the PS. Our servers (P1.6A, 256DDR, 40GB, CD) all chug merrily on the 5-9 (99.999% uptime) on 150W power supplies.

Thank you. :)

In order to get a PM from Dell to a previous sale, the new system configuration must exactly match the original configuration including promotions such as coupons and rebates. All coupons and rebates used on the previous purchase must still be valid for the new lower price.

For example, if you purchase a 4500 for $650 with a $150 MIR and a 10% coupon and a month later, they advertise the same system for $600 with a $100 MIR and no coupon required for lower price Dell will not PM the price becuase even though the machine configuration is identical the promotons are different. This is also the reason that Dell list rebates and promotions as line items on your packing slip and invoice.

Dell is pretty good about not dropping prices on identical configurations and promotions becasue they know that people will call wanting the lower price. However, this time it looks like Dell slipped up and you should be able to get $30 (more if you paid sales tax) back if you purchased your 4500 P2.4Ghz system in the past two weeks! In order to get a PM you need to call the sales dept. and not customer service since Dell's CS is outsourced and you may be talking to anyone from a person working out of their home to one of the regional outsourcing facilities. In either case, Dell's oursourced CS cannot give you a PM. they cannot even view your original order! All they can do is run Dell's price comparison configurator against your original order which will not factor coupons in the new price! Most of the time CS will ask you to FAX them the new configuration with the lower price, but you will never get your PM or hear from them again. The best way to get the lower price is to call the appropriate Dell sales and tell them you want to PM the system you purchased recently. They will ask you to email them your cart. This option isavailable from within your cart. The Dell sales rep will then be able to see the new configuration including your coupons already applied and the newer and lower net price.

Thanks for the information, getreal. Do you happen to have a generic # for the appropriate dell sales department?

Well, I just called Dell to cancel the order I placed yesterday and placing a new order. I don't want any hassle of getting my $ back.

Now I am still waiting for the credit of $44 for the difference of the Planar 19" LCD bought on 08/23/02.

hmmmm.....I'm getting $818 for the config listed on the original post (4500, all options removed or 'standard' options where you can't lower the price). Followed instructions as on original post......
**Never mind** Got it to show $649...but where's the $27 price drop????

Dell sucks!

Per a post above, I called sales and got a quick answer from someone who immedeiately called me by name (apparently from caller ID). He had my account open with no other questions while I explained the price drop and that I wanted an adjutment. He said "no problem; I'm going to put you on hold for a minute and when I get back everything will be taken care of". I'm thinking: why does everyone bad-mouth Dell? About a minute later, I'm sent back to the main phone menu. I navigate back to small business sales/order and this time after a 5 minute wait get Kevin #1 Who says he can't do a thing because he is phone sales and I need on-line sales. He transfers me over to phone sales. Five minutes or so again and I get Kevin #2 who tells me that I have to talk to customer Service. I ask him for his extension and he tells me he doesn't have one. I get transfered again and another wait, this time about 10 minutes. I get some woman (forget the name, probably Kevina) who asks for all my id for the 3rd time now and declares that the customer number was for someone else and gives me that person's full name (great security). After figuring out she transposed almost every digit in my custimer number, she finally pulls up my account and tells me they can't make any adjutment UNTIL after I sign for the delivery. Every one I talked to had a different story. I sure wish I had got the name and extension of the first guy who was going to take care of everything right then!!! Arggggg

updated, now $27 cheaper. ugh!

Don't worry, Dell will refund you the difference in price if the cost of the system drops within 30 days after it's shipped. Just look at your invoice to see what day it left their factory, and call within 30 days to get some more money back!

A coworker asked me about any deals this morning and I found her this Dell deal. We configered a Dimension 4500 with the GeF4 MX and 40G hard drive as extra (and as a P4 2.4) and saved it in my basket while she thought about it.

Came back this afternoon and she decided to do it (the deal that is). So I tried to log in and it kept taking me to Home and Home Business. I finally got in to Small Business and my basket had disappeared. Time to reconfigure one....

Well, after several attempts, I got it where we were this AM and the price was higher - at least $20 higher. And, now I noticed that the sound was no longer integrated on the MB but was a SoundBlaster Live! base, or for $40 more, a Turtle Beach! Where did this come from?

Anyway, she decided to go for it and we will argue with Dell later. I think that after you add in taxes, the extra $40 for the harddrive and Video, and the $30 more for a P4 2.4 instead of a P4 2.0, her delivered price is just over $500 after rebate. I will have to compare specs tomorrow....

Did anyone else get a different sound config?
