I've gone through dozens of hard drives in my life and found deskstars fail just as much as every other brand. Had a couple of supposedly Enterprise class WD's and they both failed within a month.
Its a crap shoot. Best bet is to test them yourself when they first arrive.

Also it seems I get fewer failures of all sorts when I use a quality power supply.
 
Not sure if previous versions of Windows did this, but I know that Windows 7 started repeatedly warning me that I should backup one of my WD hard drives. Sure enough I ran diagnostics and it needed servicing. I was able to backup all the data before sending it in. I RMA'd a 640GB Blue drive and got a 1T Black in return, so WD did good.

OT: but was it refurb? or new?

IMO no warranty should be a refurb.....hear that Seabait?? I sent in a month old drive and get a reburb. There goes resale!

Hi Im new, just been reading a lot of threads. This is somthing that has happened to me with my WDs, They keeping kicking out of raid. I have now replaced the power supply thinking maybe I didnt have enough power, but now I see that this is a problem with them.
