Novak Storms Off CNN Set

Here's the scoop (waiting on official transcript):

In the second-to-last "Inside Politics" Strategy Session, James Carville and Bob Novak were in the middle of their post-Crossfire debate. While they were talking about Katherine Harris and other topics, Carville said something to set off Novak about Harris and the banter eventually drove Novak bonkers.

Carville: "You've gotta show these right-wingers some kind of backbone, you know, the Wall Street Journal editorial page is watching you show them you're tough."

Novak exclaimed, "Now, James, that's bullsh!t!" Then he turns to Henry: "Just let it go." He paused angrily for a moment, took off his microphone, and stormed off in a very Novak-like shuffle. Carville's look over his shoulder in puzzlement as Novak wanders off is classic. Henry, for his part, barely misses a beat, although there's an audible "um" as Novak crosses behind Carville.

"The chair was swinging," one viewer notes." "The ever-talented Ed Henry, totally kept his cool. At the end, he said he had planned to ask Novak about the CIA leak case, but was unable to because Novak left the set."

Another viewer notes that whomever was operating the camera and running the show in the control room deserves "props": the camera quickly panned out to show Novak leaving.

You might remember Henry originally grilled Novak a month ago on the subject of the Plame investigation. Even though the decisions to do so are probably coming from higher-up at CNN, Henry deserves some credit for pushing where others won't.

After watching the video I think he had a different reason for leaving. After he said "bullsh*t" he didn't seem like he'd be leaving at all, in fact he pulled his chair closer to the desk. It took a moment for him to push the chair back and get up.

Would a man without a strong hand choose only one card? We are absolutely convinced that Mr. Cheney has at least a full house.

I respect good, honest journalists. Novak is not among them.

I hope they try anyone anyone in the administration who was involved in the scheme to out Valerie Plame's identity as a CIA agent for treason, including Rove, Libby and anyone else who was active in the plot, including Bush and/or Cheyney. If Novak was an active participant, he should join them.

entitled too, yes. but if it airs (and i completely hate the fcc for this) i can understand the company asking him to take some time off. guys on the radio get fired for less than this so im not particularly concerned with the punishment.
i think he is under a lot more stress than normal. who knows what is actually going on with the case he wasnt asked about?

well, having now had a chance to watch the video after struggling with the download, i think novak is used to the talking over bit enough to not have gotten rumpled by that. but there are the thing people will pick up on is the "i told him in advance i wanted to ask him about the cia leak" bit which is probably where media matters is going with it. but i really think carville and the wsj comment was what set him off. although, they are probably related, because carville was probably assuming a number of editorials would be poised to use whatever novak said there in his defense as the content for the following page.
this wont change anything.
the critics will see this as proof, the detractors will probably be pretty proud he decided to call BS.
