Ken Jennings' comment during his final jeopardy answer was pretty funny.

again, Watson's ability to buzz in faster, or even win Jeopardy is not the point.

the only thing that matters is that Watson can so consistently answer Jeopardy-style questions correctly. No one really cares that he can beat human buzz-in speed. even the humans that he's beating don't care about that.

While it is impressive that he can compile his answers fast enough, with high enough confidence to trigger the buzz and still beat the opponents' time, the simple fact that he understands how to answer these questions is astonishing.

i appreciate the point you're making, but the problem is this exhibition match has no legitimacy as a contest due to the physical advantage of the computer.

it would be amazing if a team of robots could play baseball against a team of all-stars, but it would be worthless once the machines started throwing 120 mph knuckleballs and hitting 30 home runs per inning.

4ms, yeah..that's like the troy p. play where he hurdled the line on the goal line and hit flaco as soon as he snapped the ball. he could try that 100 times and 99 of those he'd be flagged for offsides or be watching the ball runner going by him.

at the core I have no problem with watson predictibly cleaning house, as almost everyone understands the inherent advantages the mechanical xomputer currently has over our organic version. however; there was heavy billing of this as man vs. machine and that has no real chance of occuring with the current set up.

Seems quite the opposite tonight, not only are the humans ringing in better, but Watson has been far, far less sure of himself and downright wrong quite a few times. I would guess that this game has a higher "degree of difficulty" for the Watson than the first demonstration game. After not being nearly as impressive in the first round, the second should be very interesting

wheel of fortune is outrageously easy IMO for a computer... cash cab would just be like googling for the answer...

It cannot Google since it's not connected to the Internet. :hmm:
It was basically customized to play at Jeopardy thus the need for tests prior to the live show.

Remember that Watson is Blind and Deaf.

Now an 18k Final Jeopardy wager from Watson? Now I'm thoroughly confused with yesterday's Fine Jeopardy wager. It seems clear that Watson does, in fact, somehow estimate his prowess in the final Jeopardy category AND is willing to gamble. Very interesting.

If watson had more time would it come up with higher degree of confidence or answers? Does it simply show the percentages after someone has buzzed in and if it had more time would it have higher chance of getting correct answer?

So is the Watson series now over?
Yes it is. It was just a 3 day series.

And I too welcome our computer overlords. In the end Watson easily cleared Game 2 just as well as he cleared Game 1

From Ken Jennings:

I AM PLAYING A PRIME-TIME GAME SHOW AGAINST A SUPER-ADVANCED ROBOT! This is the coolest thing I will every do in my life by a factor of a million. The future is here.

does brad rutter have parkinson's? he kept fidgeting the whole time

Someone needs to follow up on this. I can't imagine him being nervous after his previous appearances, but Watson is intimidating.

At the end of Final Jeopardy, Watson is rumored to have said:

A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess?

Today's wager is actually not too surprising. He bet just enough to beat Ken by one dollar in two day total even if Ken had doubled up with final jeopardy. I wish Ken was a little closer so we could see Watson actually making a gamble.

I loved it. Hope there is a re-match planned.

IBM is so going to make bank on this.

The last episode just goes to show you how cool and down-to-earth Ken is. Yeah I'm sure he's loving another shot at the spotlight but going off his Q&A sessions, his answers, the joking around, etc. it's hard not to root for the guy again. Brad's a cool guy as well but obviously he's the distance 3rd story in all this, but since he's from Lancaster I was pulling for him to make a good showing at least. Hope there's a rematch.

Yeah, I saw that, but I'm still surprised he risked anything. As some other posters in this thread have said, why risk anything, if you stand to lose? That seemed to be Watson's mentality yesterday when he bet essentially nothing on Final Jeopardy. Tonight, however, he made the largest gamble he could to still win even if he was wrong - very opposite of yesterday. Does anyone know if Watson was programmed to view this contest as a two day event, or simply 2 individual games? Was Watson aware during the first game, that a second game would be taking place?
