It looks awful--fire does not look under control and I don't think the dome will remain structurally sound. That said, looks like there is extensive scaffolding in the area that's burning. Not sure if the fire was caused in any way by renovation activity?

Sad to see. Was there about 2 years ago to the day. Sounds like fire is related to construction\renovation.

Notre Dame was the very first Catholic church/cathedral I was willing to enter after severing my ties with the church at age 11. #sad #IsParisburning

Same pretty much. They were doing a LOT of work so would not be surprised to find out it was caused by an accident.

Also somebody wrestle the phone away from our idiot president before he claims he could have put out the fire.

Damn. Imagine being the poor shmuck who caused the fire that burned down a legendary monument.

They’ve been doing renovations and believe that may have been the cause. It was surrounded by scaffolding which has all added fuel to the fire.

I've seen reports that the fire was caused by an overzealous clergyman trying to smoke out a gypsy and a hunchback.

And right on cue conservatives across the internet have already pinpointed the cause of the fire. Absolutely it’s muslims but you will never hear about it and all reports to the contrary are just to hide the truth.

No really. That’s the prevailing though in every damn conservative site with something on this story.

Like you really need to convince us that they're saying this. I already knew they were saying it without actually seeing it.

Damn that's pretty crazy. Hope it was just an accident. And hope it turns into a technological marvel in that modern technology enables them to rebuild it in exacting manner (I think there's a good chance that there's some good 3D point cloud data that would give them incredibly precise data to work from; I think the Assassin's Creed team either bought or made their own for the model they created for the game).

Bet they were in cahoots with Antifa and the liberal socialists!

The edgelords celebrating the fire aren't much better. :-(

I'm not a fan of the Church (emphasis on the capital C), but this church was much more than that. Even if you hate religion, you should rather watch such places become historical markers that can be pointed to as vestiges of when religion was the law of the land, than to see it burn (as that will in no way alter the Church, if anything it will galvanize people to become religious again).
