Will apps still update if notifications are turned off?
I get a warning about missing updates but I don't need constant notices that an app has updated.

I think by "updates" they mean something akin to Facebook status updates or news updates, not app updates through the Play store. You control the auto-update on the app listing itself.

This is what I mean. I want the app to update but I don't need the app to tell me it has updated.
The only notifications I want are for mail, calendar and sms.

If you turn that off, it means the app itself will not put things in your notification bar. Actual app update, as in newer versions, notification is handled by the Play Store app.

Edit: If you use auto-updates, you'll get "<Appname> is updating" and "<Appname> has been updated" notifications, but as I mentioned above, these are controlled by the Play Store app itself. I think you can disable notifications from the Play Store and still have apps update, but I don't know what it does for the in-progress notifications.
