How many of you know what this is for? ;) (I do)

Anyone have similar ancient technology still present in their workplace?

The instrument I use every day was state of the art when Win95 was the hot new shit, and my data collector predates that. Amish pull up next to me and laugh at my archaic gear :^D

That looks like an old style IBM token ring network connector. I used to have an adapter for that plug in my laptop bag so I can could connect to old IBM networks before they finally switched over to Ethernet (like the rest of the planet) around 2005 or so.

In hindsight I'm surprised by how little I saw Thin Ethernet / how quickly it was replaced by UTP cabling: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10BASE2

I think my first workplace briefly used it for older PCs, and I think it was in use on the school and college networks I saw, but that was about it.

I still have an old ARCNET hub (coax cable) in the drop ceiling next to my office. with it's own light bulb and switch for when you needed to work on it. No, it's not in use. I guess it works still. many of the cables are still in the ceiling as well. Used to be all around the manufacturing floor as well. But i've removed them over the years when i ran across them. I leave the one next to my office for nostalgia.

Come on, man... you could get a whopping 16 Mb/sec of bandwidth from those suckers. Back in the 90's, that wasn't half bad!

Were those the days (or the last of) when getting data from the network was faster than local storage?

I'm interested in upgrading my 28.8 kilobaud internet connection to a 1.5 megabit fiber optic T1 line. Will you be able to provide an IP router that's compatible with my token ring/ethernet LAN configuration?

Always a good time when someone would 'accidentally' set their TR card speed to 4 instead of 16.......

"OK guys.....who's beaconing the ring now?"

Edit: I used to have a PCI 100speed TR card back in the day. I dont really know if they even got mass produced tho *shrugs*

Type 1 Token Ring..... wow that brings back memories. Not good ones, but memories none the less. Is there still a MAU still hiding somewhere?

Does a DMS100 count? We have one of those. (and manage quite a lot of other ones) We have all sorts of other interesting tech that is not really made anymore like Newbridge and such.

We found a manual for a token ring concentrator when doing a cleanup too. That was fun to go through.

I was working in a school once and noticed jacks labeled Unisys. I think they were for the Unisys Icon computers. Ahh I miss those. Those trackballs were so fun. I can still hear it in my head. Wiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
