Noticed something about CES: Something Apple does right...

If you're going to announce a product, make it available WITHIN A FEW DAYS OF ANNOUNCING IT you twits! You create all that buzz, then say "It MAY be available within 3-4 months or so". By that time we've forgotten about your product.

When Apple announces something, they have it available shortly there-after, and everyone rushes out to get it from the hype that was created. They know how to market!

The other thing they did right was release a tablet where the user has the choice of taking it in the ass from a cell phone company.

What's with all these slates coming out only being available from Verizon or ATT. Suckage.

EDIT: No, the Ipad is not a tablet, just making an example.

Most of the other companies come out with ordinary, not so exiting, a copy of apple or inspired by apply product. They know it aint worth shit in real world so they announce it and try to create hype and get their stocks rising, they know its going be a bummer and not make any money once its actually comes out and so they try to make money before it actually comes out.

Note to self - don't ever sound like a apple fanboy again in this forum.

😀 Fanboy!

In all honesty, I've never owned an Apply product, just watching how they do things.

they also market the hell out of it when the product is for sale. there were plenty of mp3 players before there were ipods...i cant remember EVER seeing an ad for one other than an apple ipod, which was always more expensive and lacked features when compared to other units.

Well their strength seems to be they can make "geek" hardware easy to use for mom and pop. They know how to dumb things down to the average person level.

It's too bad that they haven't released any product that was worth purchasing.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) is scheduled to release its fiscal first-quarter financial results after the closing bell on Tuesday, January 18, 2011. Analysts, on average, expect the company to report earnings of $5.29 per share on revenue of $24.12 billion.

Apple: 1

Can't wait for this Motorola Xoom

Numenorean was simply stating a simple fact.
The facts that they have good marketing and a high profit margin as well as the facts that people will buy things to be "in style" does not change the fact that Apple products are not worth buying.

I would consider an mp3 player from them if it had a swappable battery, swappable memory cartridge (standard format too, not some weird closed format), and didn't require installing special software to use (would prefer to mount it as a disk volume and copy whatever I want to it ideally EXT2 or EXT3, or NTFS would work...)
Also, it would have to be under $100, and I would want at least 15 hours of play time between battery charges...

worth cannot be defined since it changes from person to person.

Yup I actually considered an IPad at some point when I was using one, until I saw it was impossible to plug it in and have it come up as just a drive and let me put photos on it. You had to use iTunes to do that. Bullshit. That makes it a worthless device and not worth buying. I'll have to wait for an Android tablet probably. Probably until they aren't so stupid expensive either.

yes thats what limiting features does D:

how long did they have only one mouse button?

Are you kidding? The IPad isn't easy at all for the average person. I know, I have had several people ask me about how to do a bunch of stuff because they couldn't figure it out. And some wasn't very intuitive either.

I guess the people you know are stupider than average. If they can't figure out how to use an iPad not sure they're gonna know how to delete all that spy/malware off their PC either.

Hell it wasn't intuitive to me. One guy wanted to transfer pictures from his computer to the IPad. I plugged it in and figured I would just be able to open it up and copy the pictures to it. That would be intuitive. Instead you have to go into iTunes and do a bunch of shit in there to sync it, which is far less intuitive than simply copying/pasting from one folder to another.

Of course, if you let it iTunes will probably sync every fucking thing on your computer to the IPad and stuff the drive full.

Oh and you can't view Flash on the web on the iPad either. What fucking good is that for a device that is "The best way to experience the web" in Apple's own words. Yes...the best way to experience it is to not be able to even view a whole ton of it.

1. Open iTunes drag drop photos from folder into iTunes. Done.
2. I rarely run into that problem on my iPhone although yes it does suck sometimes. The irony is the Samsung tab flaunts this capability but flash sucks and most users disable it.

"But so far, Flash has been one of the weakest, most embarrassing spots for the Galaxy Tab, severely depleting the device's performance, according to the reviews we've read. (We don't have a Galaxy Tab, so we weren't able to verify this ourselves.)"

From Gizmodo's review:

"The browser is miserable, at least when Flash is enabled."

From the New York Times' review:

"Because the Galaxy runs Android 2.2, it can also play Flash videos online (touché, iPad!). Or at least it’s supposed to. After some delay, I got Flash movie trailers and CNet videos to play, but at ESPN.com, the Play Video button just stared at me sullenly. (My Samsung rep says they play fine for him.)"

From the Wall Street Journal's review:

"I tested several Adobe Flash videos and websites written in Flash. Sometimes they played and sometimes they didn’t. In all cases, they slowed the browser down. On one site written in Flash, I got a warning saying I might want to 'abort' lest the computer become 'unresponsive.' In another case, the Tab crashed. So I conclude that while the Tab does play Flash, it needs work on that score."

From Engadget's review:

"The Tab's Flash capability is a nice fallback, but if you've been thinking it's the killer tablet app you should think again."

copy/pasting so feel free to prove me wrong.

Why should I have to bother opening some program to copy things to/from anything? I don't have to do that for my MP3 player, camera, video camera, phone, etc.

I didn't know you could drop the files onto iTunes though. I had to go and actually tell it to get the photos in some dialog box somewhere and then sync it. I also had to stop it from transferring every song that was on there to the iPad. Again it's not intuitive. I wouldn't think to drag and drop unless I could open the device itself.

And I never said the Samsung Tab was a better alternative or anything. Personally I don't give a shit about flash on a mobile device, but Apple advertises that it's device is just so good at web browsing and such so I would expect it to do well, flash included.

The Xoom is supposed to have a WiFi only version, same for the Galaxy Tab. And when Apple announces a new iPhone model, it usually doesn't ship for a month. But, I agree, you still have a hard launch date. Soft, paper launches irritate me.
