Nothing like an unexpected raise

My wife got her new paycheck with an unexpected 15% raise in it. Since the potential for a raise was not communicated she called in to confirm that it wasn't some sort of mistake. Nope - they just didn't tell anyone

I got an unexpected 4% out of band pay raise earlier this month for my performance in addition to the 20% more for the new job in January and have met all of my bonus requirements.

Its been a good year for our wages

I got a new toad, but I haven't seen him for a couple days. He has one eye, and I call him Tubby....

[Voice of sensibility] Be sure to put 50% of those raises in some type of savings.[/Voice of sensibility]

Congrats on the double raises.

i wonder....did they do an audit and find that your wife was getting underpaid at her job level? And they went oops, lets fix it quietly and not tell anyone. Which means she's been underpaid for a while but we're only going to correct that going forward.

My wife had her first day at her new job and they told her that they forgot to mention that she was supposed to get a 60K bonus so here it is, enjoy!

Congrats on the double raises.

Always a good point. All of mine went into retirement so I think hers might go towards a car as we have one thats 10 years old and over 205,000 and another that is 7 years old and about 190,000. I like not having a car payment and would like to keep it that way when we get another one

Its possible but I don't think so as there is a rough range given for her job and we know what her position pays elsewhere. They re-negotiated the contract with the location she does work for and I think there was enough satisfaction there that they asked for more money for her salary. Her payroll and benefits are a bit opaque and...interesting as she is a one off situation for them and doesn't get to take part in those negotiations. This is the downside to not having a boss and working on a side project that, while mutually beneficial to both organizations, doesn't get much attention. But she loves what she does and where she is so we put up with it.

Thats awesome!

What? That's a thing?
I assumed they always took a certain percentage no matter how much you make.

Wow, looks like the limit is $118,500 this year.

You're rich!

Right when I start making that amount ($118k, probably be over that in the next 5 years) or more will be the exact moment that they raise the cap to a ridiculous amount like they have been talking about (200k+)

$118k makes no sense to me.
If Social Security is in such a tough place, why not increase the max to $500k?

Sounds like more middle class beat down to me.

Because it was essentially meant to be a forced retirement system. Instead its a pyramid scheme. Your output from social security should be directly proportional to your contribution. Instead it is heavily skewed in favor of people that contribute very little (odd jobs, stay at home, untaxed labor, etc...) or immigrate to this country midway through their life. It's pathetic.

That's why there is a cap, it wasn't meant to pay for everyone else, it was meant to be a forced investment for yourself.

How come every time i make a brag thread I get flamed? But everyone else gets grats. It's not fair...

I wish this thread would move off the front page more quickly (irony). I got a 1.5% raise this year and I make jack shit as a worthless corporate slave.

That won't fix SS. The only way to fix it is to declare aging past 65 illegal, seize assets from anyone of illegal age and deny all SS claims.
