Nothing kills a date faster than a crappy movie

So I went to watch The Happening, what a shitty movie. It was like a crappy B-rated sci-fi movie that has the lamest dialogue.
It was so difficult to carry on with a conversation with my date after the movie.
I just want to warn you all, avoid this movie like the plague.

Movie for a first or first few dates are a bad idea.

You just sit and don't even get to talk to each other. Go for a cup of coffee by a nice bistro or a nice stroll in a park. You can even do light activities.

Movies? Bad idea unless you guys get to the point of being comfortable with one another.

And don't blame the bad movie for your bad chemistry.

yes i don't see how the movie is to blame for the lack of conversation. if you imply that a good movie can spark conversation, then an equally bad movie should also be able to spark conversation.

I was just kidding about killing the date, I know her for 2 years now, just started casual dating. It was her idea to watch this movie, so she was feeling all guilty about choosing this POS of a movie. Of course we carried on and went for desert, but still what a piece of trailer park trash of a movie this is.

there was an article on google news yesterday when M.night whats his ass said he made it a B movie intentionally

I watched a 4 or 5 minute clip of it a few weeks ago and it had some of the worst acting/dialogue I've ever seen in a big budget movie. Even worse than any of Lucas's prequel Padme/anakin love scenes....

When I get out of work, I'll try to find it.

Edit: damn YouTube took it down 🙁

Its M. Knight, of course its going to be bad. Anyone that has seen his movies after Signs, should know hes a hack and his movies are crappy.

Which is why I wonder how the hell did he end up with the Directing responsibilities for a live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender movie.

Never take someone to the movies if it's one of the first dates. Imagine going to see a movie with a random stranger; it would be a bit awkward. It's essentially the same thing. No opportunity to talk at all.

I agree. Considering the options available that make good dates at the beginning, it's just stupid to pick a movie unless that is something she really insists on doing.

When I saw the first trailers for the movie, I thought it looked really bad
but then when the TV commercials started getting better/more frequent, I thought it might be alright - especially since M Knight Shamalamalamala was directing... like some sweet ass plot twist that couln't be shown in trailers...

I went to see it at 12:30 last night and woooooow that movie was horrible. At least it was short
The acting of those 2 kids was so horrible haha and the movie plot seemed really predictable
Some of the scenes seemed really useless, too (hot dogs, pregnancy)

The scenes at the old house were alright, but they should have made the old lady more important (aka she was all about nature, they were right in the center of the happenings, she was like teaching morals... if you get what I'm hinting at)

The only good part about it was that one of my highschool friends was an extra in the classroom in the 2nd scene of it

Wow. That's a serious statement to make.

so you're changing your story to agree with everyone else now?

Oh yes I did make up. In fact I made up the whole story, I didn't even go to a date let alone watching this movie. I was jerking profusely at 2girls1cupcake whole night, what do you mean going out?

Lorenzos Oil was a serious date killer for me. It was her idea too. Of course this was many years ago. 🙂

I'm waiting for this to be out on DVD most movies aren't worth the $10.50 per person to see in a theater vs $1.99 for the home theater...

And yeah, MNS movies have definitely gone downhill since Sixth Sense (tough act to follow imo) but so far I've enjoyed each one to some degree. There are definitely some gaping plot holes in some of the movies (i.e. aliens who are lethally allergic to water invading earth) but there are enough good elements for me to be entertained. One thing I do like is that his movies tend to have high production quality, if The Happening changes that I probably won't enjoy it in the same way as the others.

It shouldn't be difficult at all to have a conversation with your date after this. Simply have a laugh together about how awful the movie was.

You = fail.

LOL that's what I was thinking.

I agree.
The old-school thinking is that you will have something to talk about afterwards, but that doesnt really work.

What really happens is after 2 hours of being together and not talking, you find you have already lost interest.

How come every time someone mentions taking a date to the movies there has to be 15 responses on the first page telling the OP that you shouldn't take a date out to the movies cause you don't get to talk?

It's like it's ATOT's collective single nugget of dating wisdom and must be repeated ad nauseam.
