Nothing here.

Why we don't really care about browser wars:

Because we all get here and getting our posting done just fine without worrying about it all.

W.F.

I've quit using browsers and computer alltogether. Instead I just stick my finger into the phone jack and hum really loud.

k-meleon is faster then firefox in load up, so i use that. I'm sure its based on mozilla as well.

A. Debatable. In Maximum PC they had a showdown and IE actually loaded pages faster on average than firefox. This was before 1.0 of course and I am unaware of any performance boosts it has gotten. Opera will have built-in web accelerator which will make it faster than both for dial-up users. I think another showdown is in order soon.

B. Ok, but if you take away the things outside your control you are left with one browser that doesn't load the page as inteneded and another that does. While I certainly don't blame firefox for the webmasters faults, IE is clearly better at this job. Everything else aside, wouldn't you rather have a browser that can adapt like that? Would you cry if firefox could do it?

C. I'm sure firefox is just as unsecure as IE, but ask yourself why someone would target it? People target IE because it's M$. Yes, there are extra securities built-in firefox and most other alternative browsers, but they can still be hit, and have all gotten their own security fixes. It's just a matter of mozilla pissing off a talented enough hacker 😛

I certainly don't think these points are enough to say firefox sucks though. I don't think it sucks, although I do think there is better still. And nothing is perfect, so if the choice is between IE and firefox, you'd be stupid not to choose firefox.

Nice points! I wonder if in that showdown the authors included the Firefox speed tweaks (pipelining and such). That really helps to improve things.

And you are right about Firefox's adaptibility. IE does "what the website author meant", rather than what is really written. And that is certainly helpful. No, I wouldn't cry if FF did that. 🙂

I don't quite think people target IE because it's MS. They target it because it's the biggest kid on the block. If Linux or Apple were the biggest kid, everyone would throw rocks at them...

I was hard coding some meta keywords in a Web page the other day, then jumped to another part of the page and forgot my closing tag. Firefox rendered the page properly but IE failed to apply my styles. Infer from that as you see fit, but to me it looked like superior design.

I think people often are afraid of those that are really successful. I think it's a trust issue.

I don't see a need for this thread, but some decent points were made. Personally, I don't see why people ride IE so much. If you're getting adware and viruses and whatnot, learn how to use the fvcking internet.

But that's not why I switched. Alternative browsers are just as secure/unsecure as the user, just like with IE, but they are WAY more advanced. I can browser the internet with so much more ease using my browser of choice.

Duly noted. <snip snip>
