I'm unable to get usable sound from a new Foxconn G45M-S motherboard when playing DVDs over the HDMI output. MP3, MP4, Flash, etc. videos and music play back fine. But I've tried several commercial DVD disks and two brand-new SATA DVD drives and none work properly. I'm using the Windows Media Player that comes with Windows 7, 64-bit, Beta. Everything has been updated with Microsoft Updates.

When I insert a DVD and the "sound" starts, I get nothing but horrible distortiion. No usable sound. SOMETHING is trying to come out, because it's quiet until the DVD starts playing, and then just noise comes out. I'm playing this on an Emprex 32" LCD TV, using an HDMI input. The TV itself seems fine and sound over the HDMI connection is fine, too. Until I try playing a DVD.

There aren't any newer drivers that I can find for either the X4500HD or the Intel or Realtek HD sound. Windows 7 says I already have the latest ones.

Is this a known issue with the built-in Intel G45/X4500HD chipset with Windows 7 Beta?

Thanks for the replies. I thought I'd get around to trying Component or VGA output (combined with analog 2-channel sound), but I haven't had a chance. I'm downloading Win7 RC, so I'll probably be installing that, too. If it doesn't work, I'll try Vista Ultimate.
 
Well, good news and bad news with Windows 7 x64 RC.

Good news: DVD video and sound playback to my HDMI TV input now works. The Intel video driver is now from February and the HD Audio drivers are from late April.

Bad news: There's still no way to eliminate overscan from Windows or from my TV, so I can't see most of the needed menus in Windows.

Also, the Windows 7 RC usually starts up with a mostly scrambled Windows Desktop screen after logon. I have to right-click and hit "Refresh" one time to unscramble the screen. After that, it mostly behaves. This is new with RC. It didn't happen with the Public Beta.
