Santa Monica College. 1 dead (maybe a shooter), 4 others wounded. Maybe 2 shooters. Reported to be an AR-15 as the weapon. Not a lot of details. From the way these developing stories have been reported lately I wouldn't bet my life savings that any of that is accurate.

edit: apparently the shooting victims are all women.

AR-15? Are you sure it wasn't 3 AK-47's that he was holding?

edit: Maybe 5 Glocks too?

NBC is saying none dead,4 wounded including the shooter.

It also doesn't really sound like a school shooting in that it originated at a residence, continued through the streets (car jacking, bus shot at numerous times etc) and the shooter went into the university library according to NBC. Doesn't say whether students were shot.

As far as the gun, some woman identified it only as a "big rifle".

Yup. Sounds like all the reports are completely accurate.

Wolf Blitzer says one confirmed dead, but confirmed doesn't mean what it used to.

Eye witness gun enthusiast says AR-15. Said shooter looked Asian. That witness must be right - he was wearing a Phi Theta Kappa sweatshirt. :)

It will be interesting to see how many of the 'for sure' things turn out actually to be true.

Heard that some guy near the college was just shooting at cars driving by and that there are three dead in a house. The gunman is supposed to be one of the dead. The college is under lockdown.

edit - three dead but two of the dead found in a burned out house near the college.

Eye witness gun enthusiast :D:D:D

bwahaha. To the media, a gun enthusiast is anyone that makes a mock gun with their thumb and index fingers. A gun enthusiast is someone who has 2 waterguns at home for their kids.

Medical briefing info: 3 patients, one died, one in operating room (critical), one serious but doing well. These 3 all women all with gunshots. Ages 30-50. Three other patients at another hospital all doing well. These 3 were not shot. One of them was possibly injured from shrapnel. The other 2 walked in.

LEO briefing info: basically not a school shooting, Started elsewhere and moved onto campus.

Two hours and, what, 7 replies? The world is such a different place than it was even a few years ago...

Possible second shooter involved, seems very unclear.

SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) — Two people were found dead Friday in a burned home, apparent victims of a shooting rampage that killed another person and injured at least five others before the shooter was wounded at nearby Santa Monica College, authorities said.
Police and witnesses said the chaos began shortly before noon when a man dressed in black opened fire on a house in this normally idyllic coastal community, then fired on a car and wounded the driver before taking off in another car.
From there, the chaos moved a few blocks away to Santa Monica College, where witnesses reported vehicles on a street corner being sprayed with gunfire.
Authorities believe at least one shooter, and possibly two, fled from there onto the campus, where California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Ramirez said one suspect was wounded and taken into custody.
Several students in the library reported hearing gunfire, and one witness said he heard a woman scream.
The campus was searched for a second shooter, and a man dressed entirely in black, with the words "Life is a Gamble" on the back of his sweatshirt, was seen being taken into custody by law enforcement officers. He did not appear to be wounded.
All of this unfolded about 3 miles from where President Barack Obama was attending a fundraising luncheon.
Three women with gunshot wounds were admitted to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, said Dr. Marshall Morgan, the chief of emergency medicine. One died, another was in surgery, and the third was in serious condition but doing well, he said.
Three other women went to UCLA Medical Center Santa Monica with relatively minor injuries, Morgan said. One has shrapnel-type injuries and the two others had injuries not related to gunfire, he said.
Jeff Furrows of the Santa Monica Fire Department said there was extensive fire damage inside the home where the two bodies were found, and one of the wounded women was found with a gunshot wound in a car nearby.
Jerry Cunningham Rathner, who lives near the house, said she heard gunshots and came out onto her porch to see a man shooting at the residence. Soon, the building erupted in flames and was billowing smoke.
The gunman, dressed in black and wearing an ammunition belt, went to the corner and pointed a military-style rifle at a woman in a car and told her to pull over, Rathner said. He then signaled to a second car, also driven by a woman, to slow down and began firing into the vehicle.
"He fired three to four shots into the car — boom, boom, boom, right at her," said Cunningham, who went to the woman's aid and saw she was wounded in the shoulder.
"I can't believe she didn't have worse injuries," Cunningham said.
She said the gunman then abducted the woman in the first car and drove away.
From there, the scene shifted to Santa Monica College, located in a neighborhood of strip malls and homes more than a mile inland from the city's famous Santa Monica Pier, Third Street Promenade and its expansive, sandy beaches.
Jimes Gillespie, 20, told The Associated Press he was in the college's library studying when he heard gunfire, and he and dozens of other students began fleeing the three-story building.
"As I was running down the stairs I saw one of the gunmen," said Gillespie, who described the shooter as a white man in his 20s, wearing cornrows in his hair and black overalls. He said the man was carrying a shotgun.
Gillespie believed there were two shooters because he heard two kinds of gunfire — a shotgun and a handgun — but only saw one person.
"The shotgun blast was first. It was either him or the partner who shot eight to 10 handgun shots," Gillespie said. "Then after I saw the gunman I heard more shots and I ran out of the library through the emergency exit."
As Gillespie ran across campus, he said he saw a car in front of the English building that was riddled with bullet holes, had shattered windows and a baby's car seat in the back.
Another student, Khwanfa Wilepananon, said he and a friend were on the library's third floor when they heard a loud bang and a woman's scream coming from the first floor. As he and a friend fled downstairs, he said they heard two shots.
"It was so scary," said Wilepananon. "It was so dark and I was scared. We didn't know what to do."
Santa Monica police Sgt. Rudy Flores said numerous witnesses called to report that the shooting near the college began with a man on a street corner near the college firing shots at vehicles, including a bus.
California Highway Patrol Officer Vince Ramirez said his agency began receiving 911 calls just minutes before noon.
"We understand one shooter was taken into custody shortly after we arrived," he said.
The two-year college, with about 34,000 students, was in the midst of final exams Friday. It was quickly locked down by police, and students were told to leave.
As the drama unfolded, Obama was attending a fundraising luncheon about 3 miles away.
Secret Service spokesman Max Milien said the agency was aware of the shooting but it had no impact on the president's event.

Wait...assault weapons are banned in California. This is not possible.

Also the story will be dropped, the perp apparently was a lebanese hispanic white guy. Since it's not a white-white guy, and assault weapons are banned it doesn't fit the narrative.

It will go away very quickly.

Nah, the media will just keep photoshopping his picture to look whiter until it becomes a big story like they did with Zimmerman. D:

Maybe he was a homemaker and they will classify the shootings within the house as "workplace violence".

Look at all the assholes making light of people dying in a state that's trying to get rid of gun violence by getting rid of guns, while ignoring the fact that it's easy to get these guns from another state. Will things be so funny when your loved ones are dead because of someone on a rampage?

It won't be funny. Id be more concerned why she missed.

Oh that's right! She doesn't even stand a chance in that fucked up state.

The point being gun bans don't stop criminals and only further easy killings. Maybe we should make killing people illegal. That will prevent it!

I love the interview with the chic in the library. Oh the police were quick to get here. They were here in under 10 minutes!

Sure you will, tough guy. Death and misery is not something to take lightly, especially when it's something so random. I lived in Texas when that guy shot all those people in Killeen, Texas. It was a horrible day seeing all those lives wasted away like that. Nobody in the restaurant shot back as you romantically imagined it would be. All your tough talk will get you or someone you know killed one day...

There are some devastated family and friends tonight.

Beyond that which I can't comprehend, I'm concerned about how these increasingly common news stopping acts of violence are going to have on the young minds.

Politicians who routinely deceive and take no responsibility for their failures (just as bad in corporate business world) and violence across all areas of community in a random senseless fashion. I feel this is fundamentally different than 20-30 years ago.

Yeah, I just don't understand how one American can be so different to the misery of another. At the very least show some respect by not making light of their deaths.
