'Cempron' ? Is that like a Seleron? :D

Acer makes very nice laptops. Highly underrated, IMO.

Fixed! Coffee hadn't reached fingers at that time. :)

Weird. On the Acer website (http://us.acer.com/) the 3000 series nb's are said to have Pentium M + Intel integrated graphics. No mention of a Sempron version. Anyone know what kind of graphics is in this?

My bad -- I was looking at the TravelMate line and not the Aspire series.

For this price, one wouldn't expect fast graphics. Might be worth checking to see if this SIS integrated graphics has DCT or other features to help provide decent DVD and video performance.

Fantastic deal, thx allisolm. If I had money I'd definitely get one.

UPDATE: According to Onion @FW, it is actually a sempron 3000+ with dvd-rw. He has one w/pics in the hd thread, and says the box wrong! People are saying to make sure you get the white and green box with the PO number AA718413-10 or AA718413-1 (and not the brown box w/AA718413-3). That's a quick summary but I recommend checking out that thread for the latest.

Take the bonus RAM and it'll do everything I bother using a laptop for. I'll have to see if I can find enough spare change to get it ;)

Thanks OP

EDIT: Laptop @ NewEgg
Reviews say the battery life is kinda low, but overall it's still a good little machine.

SiSM760GX integrated 3D graphics controller with 64MB shared RAM

thats good, it means its an athlon 64 based sempron. you could probably upgrade this on your own with an athlon 64 or turion chip.

the video would still suck though.
Wouldn't that create heat problems? I'm not all that familiar with laptop cooling.

i believe a 2800 sempron is 1.6 ghz. i dont think an athlon 64 creates much more heat, and i'd assume acer had build this laptop to withstand more, i'm sure they sell athlon 64 versions of this.

Oh that's odd. I work at the CC in Novi, MI. I sold 4 of those Acer's last night and they were all in brown boxes. Hehe, somebody's going to get fired for handing out the wrong laptops :p

Some people have purchased this and gotten ones with Sempron 3000+ CPU and a pioneer Dual layer 8X DVD+_RW drive instead of the dvd/cd-rw drive. My wife is considering the unit. She currently has a 2 year old Toshiba Satellite 1115-s103 running a Celery at 1.5 GHz. Would she notice any performance increase with the Acer? The only diff between the two are the HG (40 vs. 20GB) and the possibility of getting the DVD burner. Thanks ...

Just got one for my daughter for graduation.Has the Semperon 3000 and Pioneer DVD Re-Write.The Box is labled 2800 with a CD re-write DVD drive.More importantly it"s pretty quick, cool and quite.Hard drive read and writes seem quite quick for an inexpensive laptop.I've set up a number of more expensive Dell's in the last few months for my wife's ofice and they don't seem(i'm shure if they were benchmarked they wouldn't be) any quicker.I haven't had a chance to look at graphics preformance yet but i know it's more than enough for what she will use it for.I gott'a tell ya,it more than exceeds my expections!

I bought one at the Circuit City in the Source Mall in Westbury, NY; it has the dvd burner and 3000.
Anyway, just reporting a new location and confirming.
Thanks OP.

I just might get in on this deal. But I have a question.....

What happens if I get on and bring it home to find out I only get a 2800 without the DVD burner? How easy is it to return and how long will I have to do it?
