notfred's vacation pics

I was gone last week. Here are the pics.

Some are nicer than others. I hope you enjoy them. If anyone really wants a higher res version of any of them, I have them.

The captions aren't all real descriptive. The pictures are of Sandia Peak, NM; Mesa Verde Nat'l Park, CO; Carlsbad Caverns Nat'l Park, NM; and the Grand Canyon, if I didn't make it obvious on the page...

we got to meet up after i get back this weekend..

me like the pics.. 🙂

Did bri go along? - duh i should have gone to the next pic..

🙂

I threw a rock straight out from the edge, and it took about 10-11 seconds before we heard it hit the ground at the bottom. If anyone wants to calculate how high that is, you're welcome to. 🙂

490-592.9 meters using distance = initial velocity * time + 0.5 * acceleration * time^2.

This is assuming you just dropped the rock or threw the rock straight horizontally. And it's inital velocity equalling 0. Also using 9.8m/s^2 as the acceleration. And leaving out a whole bunch of other sh!t.

But hey, that's a pretty far fall regardless 🙂

man i will never ever be able to get myself that close to the edge..i'm DEATHLY afraid of hieghts.

anyways, those are friggin awesome pics.

Signs at the Grand Canyon state that it's an average of 1 mile drop to the bottom and an average of 10 miles across from south rim to north rim. The north rim is also an average of 1000 feet higher in altitude than the south rim.
