Noteworthy Wireless LAN PC Card by Toshiba
linky

Note that there's no warranty on this card, and I have no idea how good it is, but looks like a good deal on a wireless card if you don't want to deal with rebates.

This does seem like a good price for a wireless card but the range seems a little low, I thought
that these cards would have a usable range of closer 1000-1500 feet w/open or semi-open
spaces. maybe the antenna isn't as good as some others?

I wonder if this would work from my house to my dad's crib which is one street over from mine
approx 300' "as the crow flies" but we both have brick homes.

would be nice to be able to share one cable line save about $25/month

About all I could find was this Press Release that indicates it's a WaveLAN OEM'd card. I don't think that 802.11b is compatible w/ 802.11.

Most likely folks are better off w/ the TigerDirect $49.99 cards that are 802.11b Lucent/Orinco: Here (Brand new, no rebates, w/ warranty).

BTW, that TigerDirect deal's been posted previously.

What's the difference between 802.11 and 802.11b? I'm guessing speed, as 802.11b is up to 11mb/sec. I changed the title though to 802.11.

the Lucent Wireless LAN PC Card (IEEE 802.11b Compliant) uses the Lucent chipset 😉

and it would be the best to buy, esp. at $49

you can even hook an external ant. up to it easy.

If you want a solid Prism based card, get the 3Com also $49

lucent review (the silver is the same as Gold reviewed here, except it is 64bit WEP not 128)
