Notepad screwed up?

I started Notepad and began typing and I swear the small case letter "L" is upside down.

Looks fine to me...it actually resembles "1" (without the horizontal tick at the bottom)

It looks like an inverted "L"

I am guessing you are using Lucida Console, which I believe is the default. The 'l' looks like what you described in that font. Switch to a different font and see what you get (Format > Font).
