Notebook's problem: pointer moves by itself

I always have mouse/pointer problem with notebooks. The pointer can sometimes moves itself to the upper left/right screen. Sometimes, when I continue working, it got itself fixed. Other times, I have to reboot.
I experience this with several Toshiba, Digitec, and even IBM notebook, either using touchpad or trackpoint.
Is this a common behavior/problem in notebook ?

Anyone has similar experience ? Any advice to solve this problem ?

Yes....I've seen that before. It's the way the trackpad or pointer re-calibrate themselves. If you happen to move the mouse while it makes a minor adjustment to itself, this will result. Simply move in the same direction that the pointer is moving, and then back in the opposite direction. If this does not work, leave the mouse alone for about 20 seconds.

I'm not exactly sure what the interval between refreshes is, but it's around there.
