notebook wont boot

my dads notebook wont boot... and there isnt a bios or anything it just goes straight to the error msg...pci.sys is missing... how to boot from cd etc with no bios? thx!

can u boot with a start up disk?

i just made a startup disk on my desktop and inserted in the notebook but it doesnt even checkfor it, just triesto get in wxp immediately...

If it's complaining about pci.sys, sounds like it actually is getting past POST. But to boot from CD you may need to change the boot order. When it boots try holding down ctrl+alt+insert, or possibly F1... I think those are the usual IBM key combinations to get into the BIOS configuration area.

Some of your memory might have gone bad also...I've seen that error before in that kind of situation.

Thosiba has weird BIOS keys .... I think they are alt or ctrl and F1 or F2... I'll check on that if I can.

Try holding the "escape" key down as you turn it on. It should beep and say "press <F1> to enter setup".
