Notebook with 2gb upgrading to 3gb, stupid?

Hi,

I have a sony SZ series
t7500 with 2x1gb ram

I am wondering if it is possible to take one stick of 1gb out and put another 2gb in.
A total of 3gb ram.

First, is this going to work? another will i see a difference?
 
For questions of what sizes/speeds are supported I like www.crucial.com They have a memory advisor tool there where you can type in the make and model of your laptop and it spits out all the options available. Then I take that info and buy off of newegg. 🙂 As for if you will see a difference it depends on what apps you use, but the difference between 2 and 3GB won't be great.
