I'm in the market for a mobile device, I thought I was dead set the HP dm1z due to the pricing (after coupon with taxes out the door its $455.51). Then I saw a this deal for an HP ProBook with an Athlon II P340 for $399. I tried to find bench marks for performance of both machines and the best I could come up with is the AT Bench mark of a Sony EE34.

They seem to be pretty similar in spec's but it looks like overall the dm1z really shines in battery life and for gaming (lite gaming).

I really like the form factor (size) of the dm1z and the price (want to keep it under $500).

I'm really looking for some conformation that what I've seen is correct but also any feed back on the screen differences, the keyboard and possibly just general use (one seem faster then the other or not noticable?).

I realize the dm1z doesn't have an optical drive and has 1gb more ram.

I plan on using it for general internet use, gaming with older games (think 3-4+++ years and older) and for emulators (SNES and N64).

The dm1z and the Probook are really two completely different classes of machines, so any comparison that starts off looking specs is going to be meaningless.

Get the dm1z if you want something between a netbook and an ultraportable.
Get the Probook if you want a laptop.

I wouldn't say they are two completely different classes of machines, they have similar spec's and are pretty close in size..

Well throwing my hat in the ring with the dm1z. Seems to be the best fit.
