Does a notebook sata drive use the exact same sata data cable and power connector as a desktop sata drive?

It looks like it does but I do not want to try it and blow it out if this isn't the case.
 
Notebook SATA HDs do use the same power and data cables as desktops. I have hooked my laptop SATA to my desktop several times for faster file transfers then going over the network. Works every time.
 
And that little used factoid really expands the old "sneaker net." 🙂
 
Yes and also the newer SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) controller will also support SATA drives as well.
