for school/gaming:

dont care about amd vs intel (although i heard that intel has edge in mobile processors, is this just good marketing by intel or is amd cool just like they are in normal desktops)

like the pointsticks

want vid card that will do cs:s good and the new DX10 games at average performance

dont want big screen, about 14 or so would be fine

Ive looked at the lenovo's but they have zero vid card options, what is the consensus on the best manufacturer for this type of machine, also I have built desktops before is it just as easy to build a laptop, i dont want a problem though

um, for the most part, dell and ibm are the two OEMs that still use the eraser nub as a pointer, so you should focus your search there. Maybe consider the Dell Latitude D620, which is their smaller business machine, which may have vid card options.

Or.... you could look at any of the other dozens of "Recommend me a Notebook based on these crtieria" threads in this forum and see what was recommended there since your request is for the most part is nothing new.

agreed...i forgot to mention the trackpoint thing. IBM/Lenovo Thinkpads and the better Dell Latitudes come with them...iirc some business HP laptops do, too. notice only business laptops come with them. notice also that businessmen don't have high priorities for gaming. the best GPU i know of in a business laptop is the MR X1400 (which is not great) and it is in the Thinkpads. Dell comes with the NV Quadro cards (as an upgrade ~$60) and i don't even think it's a dedicated card (TurboCache only).

there was a time a few months ago i only looked for laptops with trackpoints cause my dad has had only Thinkpad T-series laptops for like the past 8 years. i got an HP and realized quickly that laptops have gone a long way in terms of the mousepad
