I have a Compaq Armada m700. Once I plug in headphones to the jack on the notebook, there are annoying ambient noises that occur when the notebook is working (eg processes running, hard drive spinning, that sort of thing). Maybe this has to do with the fact that the headphone jack is right next to the hard drive, I'm not sure. Does anybody else have this problem? If so, are there any ways to eliminate the noise or get it to quiet down? Thanks!

You could be right, but it's thd first time I ever heard of that. My laptop does not do it, but if you tap or nudge your headphones, you can usually hear the tap or nudge.

I actually found something on hp support that addresses this issue. Apparently it has to do with my headphone resistance. I guess my current headphone is at 17 ohms, but for the headphone jack to work correctly, I need 32 ohm headphones. Heh.
